They appeared without warning, eight huge boulders evenly spaced on the one of the poshest roads in Co Down.

Without permission from the Department of Infrastructure, their appearance triggered a police and departmental investigation and a lot of chat amongst locals.

But now with a ninth boulder in place on the verge of the Warren Rd in Donaghadee, they are attracting the attention of visitors who have their photos taken at the mini man-made Stonehenge and their presence is spreading across the world on social media.

They even prompted the owner of the Stormy Cup café in the seaside town to recreate the rocks in delicious Fifteens, complete with stone grey icing.

Another popular restaurant, Saints and Sinners on the promenade, is selling hand crafted ‘Donaghadee Rocks’ plaques devoted to the boulders and the craic they have attracted.

A week on from their appearance, the boulders remain in place and bollards have been set around them to reflect the lights of oncoming traffic in a bid to prevent an accident.

A spokesperson for the DFI said: “The Department became aware of boulders placed at the side of Warren Rd, Donaghadee early yesterday afternoon.

“The site was made safe whilst we determine the person or persons responsible, at which stage appropriate enforcement action will be taken. The PSNI have also been notified.”

  1. Donaghadee is blessed to count both Jayda Fransen and Wheelie Biriyani among its inhabitants.

Considering that neither add much to the local scenery, smarts or posh, and while that’s still quite the deficit to work off…

…if these big lumps of rock were _each counted as individual residents,_ it would raise the average local IQ appreciably.

  2. *’man-made Stonehenge’* ? I would have assumed that Stonehenge was equally as (wo)man-made …. But maybe it was those damn aliens after all 🤔

  3. That’s near orlock by the looks of things. Guess some rich dick is fed up with all the cars parking along that road go walk around the paths.
