The Taoiseach says he is hopeful that the NPHET advice will be that restrictions can be stood down at the end of January

  1. Since nothing ever goes to plan regarding the pandemic or anything in this country I’ll just assume worst case scenario that cases will still be high till March

  2. ICU down to 83

Swabs down to 16k today (lowest since end Dec) and 7day positivity finally dropping so looks like we’re over the hump and should see hospitalisations begin to drop late next week

    We’re looking very good

  3. What a joke. They are the government, they don’t “have to” follow NPHET advice. Current case load and only 90 people in ICU makes continued restrictions seem ridiculous.

  4. This would just be the best news! Evenings getting longer too, a bank holiday would have been the icing but sur ill take no restrictions & a big hooley 🕺

  5. Excellent news! We do seem to have ridden out this wave with comparatively very little impact to our hospitals when considering past waves. Recording record level infection rates (that were far higher anyway) and we kept a fairly stable ICU level the whole way through.

No reason why restrictions can’t be stood down entirely at the end of this month.

  6. Says a lot about this subreddit that a post like this is so heavily downvoted, all the weirdos that have allowed covid to become part of their identity won’t know what to do with themselves now, they’ll have to find a new cause that provides them with the moral superiority they crave.

  7. Disbanded NPHET at the end of the month and stop this nonsense of Tony and Co deciding what time the cinemas close

  8. Did someone flick a switch & declare pandemic has ended? Most of Africa has not been vaccinated, many countries have less than 50% vaccinated, who has assumed because Omicron is less lethal that we can all now go back to 2019? Sorry lads this isn’t gonna disappear there is plenty of room for new variants to emerge, let’s hope it will burn itself out as a less dangerous variant but don’t presume anything.

  9. Please please please have a massive lockdown near the start of February. I have a wedding to go to on the 10th and I really don’t want to go. If it’s only for 4 days then I would be delighted. Just from that Thursday until the Sunday.
