  1. > and commit in particular to bringing an end, at home and abroad, to violence against women in any of its forms.

These words will trigger some people here, if the last few days is anything to go by

  2. >“People throughout Ireland, in every generation, have been expressing their shock, grief, anger and upset at the horrific murder of Ashling Murphy.

    On point Mr. Higgins !!!

  3. Good statement from the president.

We do have a problem with violence and it’s not all men – but the men who commit violence (particularly that targeted solely at women and children) think that it is all men.

Those violent men think that all men are in agreement with what they do, but that they’re just too weak/scared to act out the violent fantasies that they think are playing in other men’s minds – just like they are in their own.

Those violent men ignore comments like “someone’s mother/daughter/wife” because they have such a messed up view of women that it’s irrelevant to them

Those violent men are among us. I suggest all men pay a bit more attention to the jokes in the pub, the memes being shared in the whatsapps and the porn their friends talk about.

I understand the confusion and the horror felt by the vast majority of men who are not violent misogynists when masculine culture is discussed in relation to this – could youse take some of that energy and use it to look to the standards of humour and discussion of women you’ve accepted as the norm in your groups? Statistically you’re unlikely to get to live the hero fantasy of being in the right place at the right time to stop a physical attack – but maybe if your mate Violent John hears enough times that the way he talks about women isn’t right then maybe he’ll stop thinking that all men agree with him, and just maybe he won’t feel entitled to attack a woman some day.

  4. It’s a complete shame this post and the article itself has been totally overlooked on this sub. The condescending posts get huge attention, the social media posts that promote fear mongering, hostility, and lay blame at the feet of innocent people based purely on their gender do nothing but divide us. But right here we have a compassionate, empathetic piece, that highlights the issue, and shows empathy for the victim and unity for our national and cultural experiences not as men and women, but as human beings. More of this, less of the other shite.

  5. >May I suggest to all our people to reflect on all of our actions and attitudes

What is this about? This vague shite drives me daft, if ya have nothing to say leave it out.

  6. I’m fully in favor of passing a law that says any man that harms an innocent woman, including threatening to kill her, on purpose will face a minimum of life in prison. So if a guy, being aware of this law, still chose to harm a woman on purpose for whatever reason, that would be all the more reason to give him life in prison.
