It’s sadly not going to cover it, but it’s a start.
So in other words, they plan to raise their pay below the NMW increase for over 23s outside london?
Oh how very “nice” of them, totally has nothing to do with a bet that their employees will just go work elsewhere if they didnt attempt to match it. About a 5.2% increase I believe? Whats inflation set to be, cost of living etc? (NMW increase by comparison is 6.5%, so arguably, their pay isnt really up to snuff)
Good news obviously although this is only slightly above inflation.
Good old sainsburys, the last time they increased wages they stopped pay for breaks. Sneaky shits.
£10 an hour, say 45 hours a week. £450 a week is plenty for people to live off. Of course, a third of that gets nicked by the government, which they will never see or feel the benefit of again.
So that was why the cashier is very talkative and friendly to me at the check out…
£10 an hour? Why so little? These are key workers in which our society wouldn’t function without. Should be £25 at least for such critical staff.
Shouldn’t that read “Sainsbury’s implementing effective pay cut”?
To any insecure Tory voters who are raging that people beneath them can afford their energy bills, it’s ok, don’t cry. You can always try and hurt as many people as possible at the next election. In the meantime, maybe verbally abuse a homeless person to make yourself feel superior.
Wish my company would do the same. Hell, if the £9.50 per hour is gonna to become mandatory in april, that will be a minor but welcome raise. I’m on £8.91 per hour, zero hour contract and at the moment, fuck all work due to it being that time of the year where we’re dead. Untill I see £9.50 on my payslip, I dare not believe it until it’s in my account.

That said, knowing this fucking country, £9.50 won’t make a difference due to food prices going up and worse, a freddo will cost £3 per bar in a few years time.
£10 is about average. Not a living wage. I wouldnt brag about this.
Minimum wage hits £9.50 in April do this is fuck all
Wow, a whole 50 pence above the over-23 minimum wage from April 2022.
For comparison, my local McDonald’s is hiring for up to £11.60 per hour. That’s right, you can get paid 16% more for flipping burgers. Apparently pay even goes up to £13 per hour if you work night shifts.

McDoanlds, by the way, [are the same people who posted a grossly inaccurate employee budget in partnership with Visa which acted like their poverty wages combined with a second job could actually pay for costs of living.](https://www.forbes.com/sites/laurashin/2013/07/18/why-mcdonalds-employee-budget-has-everyone-up-in-arms/?sh=16dc2d585216)
Sainsbury’s need a fucking reality check.
