I have not been home for the entirety of January. My apartment is about 72m2 size. Why is my electricity almost 400kr so far into January?

I am certain the heaters are off. The only things that may be on is the heater under the ground in the hallway and bathroom. Appliances I have the fridge running.

No one else is at that apartment.

  1. The water heater use a fair amount of electricity. Much more than your refrigerator.

  2. That is about 800w continous use. I.E. almost nothing. Your fridge draws 150w, your water heater draws 150w. Heated floor draws 500w. Otherwise your house would be freezing.

  3. Depending on the heaters in the apartment it might have like anti freeze (dont remember whats it called.) So it puts them on like 12-16 degrees

I hope there is some heating in the apartment so the pipes dont freeze and crack.

  4. I thought since you weren’t home you wouldn’t mind if I used your house in the meantime, mb bro

  5. When its minus 25 degrees outside, even keeping the heat on at 5 degrees inside will cost you some power

  6. It’s been cold, and the heat is hopefully not fully off. If the flat is poorly isolated, and/or you left all the ventilation openings open and there is a powerful central fan that’s always running, its not that bad.

If you have smart ovens they probably report their usage (at least my mill ovens do), if not you can find and understand what takes power with a litte power meter plug and maybe something like a Tibber Pulse.

That said, my old flat which was similarly sized, with all heat off in the winter it only got down to about 15 degrees, ventilation on. Neighbors on 4 sides + new windows…

  7. Well, if youre heat is off for the entirety of January, the electric bill is probably the least of your worries.

  8. Your apartment freezing and cracking pipes would cost more. I really don’t see the problem here

  9. 400 isn’t a lot. I expect my January bill to end up significantly past 2000 for a similar size apartment. 8 out of the 16 January days have been close to or colder than -20 for me.

  10. My bad, you want me to turn anything off before I leave?
