The most expensive roundabout in all of Europe, Torre Miramar, Valencia, Spain. Opened in 2009, it cost a total of 24 million euros, and today it is abandoned.

  1. [Part of the La Vanguardia article:](https://www.lavanguardia.com/local/valencia/20210428/7414533/rotonda-torre-miramar-abandonada-24-millones-valencia.html) There, today, we find a remnant of the era of political waste in large public works: the Miramar Tower, which is considered the most expensive roundabout in Spain for the 24 million euros it costs.
A 45-meter-high concrete tower was built with the intention of being a viewpoint of the Valencian orchard and the sea. The work was accompanied by an underpass and a roundabout with 7,000 square meters built.
A few weeks later, the elevator that went up to the top floor broke down, a small glass area with views that turns into an oven in the summer. As if that were not enough, the views are not particularly spectacular. So, three months after its opening, the viewpoint closed permanently.
Twelve years later, the tower and its complex survive next to the campus of the Universitat Politècnica de València in a state of visible abandonment and degradation. The fountains are dry, as are the plants.

  2. To me Spain is the king of pointless spending, its like they extorted trillions and trillions out of south america and 100 years later they were poor af, but they got some pretty buildings.

  3. Interesting, so people don’t like spending time in a circle with cars spewing fumes around them. It’s impossible to understand these people!

  4. That’s nothing. Check out the Walkinstown Roundabout. The most dangerous in Europe. 🇮🇪

  5. Who the fuck wants to hang out there?

    Its super noisy.. lol

    What a dumb idea

  6. Thats next to the university where i study, i think theres a skatepark in there now, not sure, ive been meaning to check it out, had no idea it was the most expensive in europe lmao

  7. But what was the need for so many lanes within a roundabout? That’s actually dangerous.

  8. I have heard you start to have roundabouts in usa now. I’m sure I was watching some you tube about it. Don’t remember numbers so can be small thing still.
To be honest I don’t know how to act every time on normal junction but roundabout is just stop on a line before ,let people from right go and there is no more rules. Easy. Can be pushed to funny results like magic roundabout in Swindon UK. Again, still easy. Just look stupid.

  9. Spain loves roundabout fraud.

You’ll often see some bullshit ‘sculpture’ in the middle, even on small ones. That sculpture is usually some crap knocked up by a ‘friend’ of the local townhall who sold it to them for tons of money. As art is subjective, it’s a nice reverse back hander for the mayor.

Mallorca is covered in rusty shit sculptures on the roundabouts. ‘It’s an inspiration from the marine life of the local area’ when it’s just a rusty metal bar surrounded by gravel.

My local Mayor was part time assistant manager at the local swimming pool for her entire career, now she’s in charge of a 16 million euro budget. Not surprisingly, everything in the local area, is fucked. 🤷‍♀️

  10. I sneaked in with a group of friends last year and the views are a bit disapointing. Also the fact that its full of graffiti does not help. There was a bunch of random objects making some sort of stairs that led to the roof, we dind´t dare to get up there.

  11. That looks like an absolute nightmare to drive in, 8 parallel lanes in a roundabout? No thanks lol

  12. Your post is a clickbait, because I had to find out in the comments that the roundabout is actually NOT abandoned, just the installations inside. Not interesting at all.

  13. Ah yes, good old 2000s roundabouts, Calatrava’s constructions and airports corruption.

  14. Not sure if anyone has said but, I live 5 min away and they’ve recently turned it into a sort of skate spot and do some events there.
Not ideal but not totally abandoned!

  15. I am pretty sure there is a roundabout in Stavanger that cost more than this.

  16. It’s Valencia, the point was not building a roundabout but politicians filling their pockets with commissions, they don’t care if now it’s abandoned or used, it fulfilled its goal

  17. I used to sneak into it when i was at the uni there a couple of yeara ago. It has a cool views

  18. I see this roundabout almost everyday. I’ve seen the same graffitis there for years.

  19. That’s why you hear praise of Spanish engineering and craftsmanship all the time.
