    Anyone who bitches how population *decline* is a bad thing; go see how disastrous such statistics are in Canada and India.

  2. So far….get ready for the whole world population to shrink as modernized countries adjust. As for third world and climate change, expect profit-driven Capitalistic countries to start clamoring for their “labor class” immigrants. They don’t want to actually have to pay their citizens a livable wage.

  3. Over population had been hyped up with good reason in some places but rarely do people bring up the current climate of population decline. While people will go yay less of us. Its not that simple. less young people and more older people is the reliality and there is a tipping point and some countries like Japan are fast approaching that.

  4. I honestly expect population decline to be balanced by robots and AI doing labor. Population decline is good for the planet, and also people if we can make the economics make sense.

  6. I love population decline. It’s gonna be good for the economy, land and housing prices will go down, it’ll suck for the older if social security has troubles, but it’s great for the younger generations because more resources will be freed up, less people will starve and suffer.

  8. BTW, nobody in China believes that official number. The reality is far worse than officially reported.

  9. This is good news for everyone, China needs to lower population. Don’t listen to people when they argue “who will take care of the growing elderly population?”

  10. I don’t understand why they had a one-child policy for families from 1979-2015. Is having the birthrate decline part of their goal?

  11. Didn’t living quality and life for serfs and the poor get better when Europe’s population got ravaged by the bubonic plague?

    Declining population might not be a bad thing. Well its bad for the aristocrats, aka billionaire hoarders.

    But regular people will have more leverage.

This might not be a good thing for China as a large amount of their population in their 30s and 40s doesn’t have a lot of children and considering how China’s economy is built, it’s massive cheap labor force is extremely important so if all those 40 year olds start retiring and don’t have kids to replace them, and China’s dislike of immigrants could lead to an economic collapse.

  16. Any country with 1.0 TFR will have its population halved within 30 years. China is that country today with lost economic decade(s) on the horizon like Japan in 90s.
