⚡️Germany to provide Ukraine with security assistance worth over 7 billion euro, draws criticism.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Jan 16. in a phone call with U.S. President Joe Biden said that Berlin will unilaterally provide Ukraine with over seven billion euro in security assistance and humanitarian support in 2024.
However, Germany’s direct approach has drawn criticism from some senior EU policymakers. The EU’s Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton on Jan. 15 slammed Berlin for not backing multilateral EU mechanisms to deliver aid.
****** Maybe Germany doesn’t want Orbin holding the EU ransom to get a cut of the Aid******
Do it already, they need it now.

Well that just reads like “stop it, you’re making us look bad” 🤷🏼♀️
Next!
I know that it always has to be “Germany bad!” first, then looking for reasons to justify that statement… but now we are really reaching new levels of stupidity.
My pet peeve: Why oh why do people insist on posting links to Twitter/X instead of posting a link directly to the news article on the source’s website?

That’s great news! Ukraine needs as much help as it can get!
It’s a very good analysis that’s hard to argue with. If anything, I think he hasn’t made quite enough of the demographic death of Russia, which has been massively accelerated by the war. And not just the 500k or more that will be dead by it’s end – but also referring to the intellectual brain death of Russia.
Put simply – there’s too many pensioners and useless mouths, and not enough people staying or being born to do the work to maintain a modern society that Russia fancies itself to be. They are a very racist country and with highly corruptible institutions that aren’t a draw for high functioning immigrants or even domestic entrepreneurs. Most people with useful brains and means have gotten the hell out of Russia, or will make an attempt to as soon as the coming warlordism makes the prospect of staying totally even more life threatening than the current goon state is.
Don’t agree? Name a Russian consumer brand. Something that isn’t oil and gas. Or military hardware – which is a lot less attractive to tinpot dictators than it used to be, given its shit performance in this stupid war. There are no global Russian brands, because they don’t produce and export anything too notch other than mischief, mayhem and murder.
The USSR had some depth. They coasted on strong technical skills, and had vibrant cultural institutions – scientists both trained internally and ideological sympathizers in the West who could be corrupted as useful idiots or outright spies. The former could be exploited for political aims, and the latter for industrial and economic espionage.
That is a much bleaker landscape now. The Russian Federation has no intellectual or philosophical depth. It is solely a kleptocratic petromafia slave state ruled by the institutions of the intelligence services, and to a lesser extent – the leaders in the military connected enough to skim money. The operating principle of Russia, at the micro and macro level is “Do as I say, or I’ll kill you”. That’s it. There is nearly nothing to admire about Russia today. It’s fans are an alliance of the corrupt, the hopelessly stupid serfs who know and aspire to no better and the trolls in it for the lolz.
This is why Russia finds itself courting populists and tinpot dictators in corrupt authoritarian shitholes like Hungary, South Africa, North Korea and Iran. Those 4th rate allies run on bribes and aren’t that useful geopolitically.
Already, Orban’s usefulness is coming to an end, as he is being circumvented by EU and NATO in terms of his ability to block aid to Ukraine. Soon, he will have to go live, perhaps literally, in a basement room in the Kremlin, fighting with Lukashenko and Yanukovich over who gets to sleep in the top bunk bed tonight.
There is no going back to Feb 2022 in terms of servicing the European energy markets either. Russia has blown away any definition or credibility or trust with its simple blackmail and obvious campaigns to punish Europe for supporting Ukraine. They’re simply not a reliable trading partner, period, and they have zero leverage with their remaining trading partners in China, India and Iran. Their new bloc of autocratic or theocratic nationalism will provide difficult negotiators for Russian oil and gas going forward. Actions have consequences, and it’s not an exaggeration to say that this stupid, egotistical vanity revenge project has seen Russia leave Europe to join Asia. Except – as the permanent junior vassal to China, useful only for resource extraction and fresh water for the parched northern areas.
On balance, I don’t agree it will end up like North Korea post-Putin. NK is a Maoist Dynastic slave state, taken to absurd extremes, which could only happen because of its backers, small size and homogenous ethnic makeup.
Russia is not geared for dynastic succession. Putin’s daughters are non-entities in Russia and would fare no better than Stalin’s kids. At best.
No – Russia is not dynastic. They are a country of greedy, paranoid barbarian warlords, and a new civil war is far more likely than a unified North Korean style state. Too many factions and there’s no great stabilizing Uncle for Russia like North Korea had with China and the USSR solving enough of the big problems, in order to allow NK to focus on creating the more perverted, evil, oppressive state of living that has ever existed.
Anyways – it’s late. TL:DR, don’t think he’s quite right about what Russia’s final state will be. A collapse seems more likely than a stable North Korean-style state. But what I know?
