  1. > 2023 Emmys **drew 4.3 million viewers** on Monday. That number was down 27 percent from the awards show’s last telecast — a Monday night in September 2022 on NBC. It’s a new record low.

    > Those **2022 Emmys averaged 5.9 million total viewers**, which set a new record low at the time. The **2021 Emmy Awards,** which aired on CBS on a Sunday, **averaged 7.9 million total viewers.** CBS tends to draw the most overall viewers on linear television, a fact the Golden Globes learned last week.

  2. They went up against the NFL playoffs. Even Mac from Sunny was watching that instead of the Emmys and he was in attendance.

  3. Most people use streaming services.

You have either standard cable tv or 1 of only 3 streaming services: Hulu + Live TV, FuboTV or YouTube TV.

Essentially it boils down to old people and sports fans as the vast majority of people who were even able watch the Emmys. (and it goes without saying what the sports fans were watching)

  4. Watching awards shows is like watching aliens pretend to be humans.

  5. I really like watching a bunch of rich, pretentious assholes pat each other on the back with meaningless awards.

  6. If I wanted to watch a popularity contest, I’d go back to high school.

  7. Would’ve been higher if they’d gotten drag queens yo host

  8. They did it at the same time as playoff football. What did they expect?

  9. No one wants to hear a bunch of entitled, spoiled, brats talk about religion or racism or politics or the environment. Motherfucker, you pretend to be shit and get paid for it. We don’t care who you want to vote for. The left or the right. We just don’t care. So take your little trophy and fuck right off.

  10. If you dont watch Succession or White Lotus, there isnt much to see.

  11. Watching award shows is watching rich people pat themselves on the back. It’s not my idea of entertainment.

  12. the funny thing is that they’re putting all their effort in Gen Z content when Gen Z doesn’t watch tv

  13. Bro, I dont even watch live sports anymore. A 10 minute run down on youtube 5 mins after the game is good for me.

Do you have any idea how many comercials there are?

  14. I actually love watching award shows with my kids. We like filling out ballots and seeing who can guess the most right. But I didn’t even fucking know this show was on. Like why are they doing it on a fucking Monday night?

  15. I always find it a little crazy when a prestigious awards ceremony has less viewership than a dude playing Fortnite after a few hours of being posted. I don’t think it is wrong just..funny I guess.

  16. Little to no promoting + Playoff football + Iowa Caucuses

It was obvious this was going to happen.

  17. Maybe they shouldn’t have put it on the same time as the NFL playoffs…..

  18. Rich people suck off other rich people. No one cares but themselves

  19. Maybe because less people are watching conventional TV anymore. And very few prestige shows on streaming warrant enough fandom to tune into the Emmy’s.

  20. To be honest, when I saw the Emmy’s on the tv channel lineup I wondered why FOX was re-broadcasting the show on primetime tv a week after it aired. A few hours later I realized, “oh, *that was the Golden Globes!”* Not that it mattered, I was watching NFL playoff football for christ’s sake. Why on earth would I watch another awards show over a playoff game?

FOX is more of a sports network than a special event network, how did they not see this happening?

  21. A bunch of ultra rich patting each other on the back for remaking everything. Will never watch.

  22. That’s more than your typical late night show and SNL broadcast.

  23. They don’t allow good comedians anymore at those award shows.

  24. I couldn’t even find it and I was looking. All the awards shows PR teams (so far) should be fired.

  25. The fact is that people just don’t care as much as they used to, and that’s not gonna change. For younger generations it’s just isn’t very relevant because their favourite celebrities are influencers and streamers.

Awards shows in general are a relic that will continue to die out.

  26. Until these award shows get broadcast for free the viewership will continue to decline.

  27. Maybe because we dont want to watch millionaire’s give each-other trophies and standing ovations.

  28. You can’t pan Better Call Saul 53 times without an Emmy and still be considered credible or relevant.

  29. Get rid of award shows.

There’s literally no need for them.
