So my bf’s residence and work permit applications are pending right now, and the Ausländeramt just got back to us and said we need to get his degree officially recognized after all. Ugh. :’) (Do you know if he needs to go back to the US if this process takes longer than the Schengen visa allows?)

They said we should get it recognized by the Zentralstelle für ausländisches Bildungswesen at the Sekretariat der Ständigen Konferenz der Kultusminister der Länder (what a name).

I’m just reading the document that explains the requirements, and it sounds to me like we don’t even need his university diploma, but just the official transcript by the university. This would be good for us, as we’re still waiting for his diploma to arrive, the university takes weeks and weeks to mail it.

Am I reading that right?

  1. Also – I know it says “vierjähriges Studium”, but he actually graduated early after 3 1/2 years. Could this be an issue?

It’s a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science, btw
