  1. Just fucking pass HR2. It’s what should have happened in the first place.

  2. They already tried doing that, but republicans refuse to accept. Some even made it clear they won’t really vote for anything before the election if it in any way can be helpful to Biden. Help to Ukraine is among those things

  3. Biden could cut Republicans the deal of the century on immigration, they still would just make up another bullshit excuse to refuse it

It has nothing to do with immigration

  4. >To beat Trump

    Therein lies the problem.

Republicans know a deal will only help the Democrats. They will not agree to any border deal until after the election cycle.

The ‘border issue’ will be a central element of the Republican campaign, irrespective of who the candidate is. They aren’t going to deprive themselves of that wedge issue in the run up to the election.

  5. All due respect, but this former NATO chief needs to sit down and mind his business. This is not helpful.

  6. This nato chief has a disturbingly bad sense of how US politics works

  7. Dems could offer 0% corporate tax rate but the republicans wouldn’t send it to Biden to sign because they don’t want to give Biden credit for anything.

  8. Democrats want every illegal migrant who crossed the border a path to citizenship. That is unacceptable to the GOP. The democrats must yield to the Republicans on the border. It is a small price to pay to help ukraine Qin the war.

  9. um democrats have signals multiple times they are willing to make big compromises on the border. The only thing they don’t want is to finish trumps wall. Every time Biden has compromised, the republicans ask for more until now what we are, holding aid hostage to Ukraine until we build a fucking fence on our border. If Biden agrees to that, it’s clear they will just want more

  10. Better yet, propose a border deal that exceeds what MAGA is asking for, even if just a wee bit. Come back later, and put some real immigration law in place that will compensate for the dismal US birthrate, which cannot sustain the USA.

  11. Trump called out Merkel for not paying their share of NATO while making deals with Putin for gas. the complete idiocy of the Germans for exploiting US defense spending while the Germans gave money to the country that spending is supposed to protect from? All of the EU is like this, they better step up and show they can defend their own backyard as leaders. Now their ridiculous political system is allowing Orban to block billions of funding and most of them still haven’t adjusted their defense spending to NATO targets. Everyone is so far down the republican hate train they can’t fathom how the opposing parties are completely screwing the pooch right now.

EU – step up and do your part
US – fix the border and unlock aid

  12. My understanding is that trump wanted NATO countries to pay their share otherwise he would withdraw. Merkel was actively making deals with the country that the US was majorly paying for their defense from.

  13. You will not be able to please the GOP. No matter what they ask for. Republicans in Congress are hanging their selves too. 2024 will be a bloodbath for the GOP & Trump.

  14. A significant number of republicans simply do not negotiate in good faith. They consistently go back on deals and promises. You can’t trust them.

  15. the border thing might put off a lot of people to vote R this year depending on who is nominated

  16. What is the republican ask on the border wall? And what are they not meeting that is a sticking point? From what I’ve heard it sounds like they are willing to deal with

  17. They’re trying to the democrats offered a really generous deal and the radical right wing doesn’t want it

  18. Tell the former NATO chief that that the partisan house “~~border~~” **immigration** bill won’t be passed. It’s by design to make sure that there won’t be a majority consensus from both sides. So senate made their own one.

    Timeline

July: The house bill passed. Zero democrat voted for it.

Oct: The Biden administration is building a border wall in Texas

Jan: senate republican and democrat reaches a deal. house republicans plan to reject it.

  19. The problem is assuming the GOP is a rational actor that can be negotiated with. They aren’t.

They initially said they wouldn’t give Ukraine aid until they had a border deal. As soon as Biden and the Dems signaled they were open to it, they moved the goalposts.

The issue was never about the border, it’s about having something to complain about.

  20. This is such a nonsense argument.

The GOP is not actually interested in the border. They are pulling a bait and switch, as they always do. Stall, delay, pander to their party’s baseline racism, but they won’t actually vote for another nickel for Ukraine through congressional approval. If you think they are serious about negotiating, you haven’t been paying attention.

They’re doing what they were paid and ordered to do. End aid, period. There is no real negotiations.

  21. Id recommend closing the border regardless of a deal or not. Use the military, declare martial law in the border area. You can’t just hand trump a simple win on migration of all things and still expect to win the election.
