The problem is assuming the GOP is a rational actor that can be negotiated with. They aren’t.
They initially said they wouldn’t give Ukraine aid until they had a border deal. As soon as Biden and the Dems signaled they were open to it, they moved the goalposts.
The issue was never about the border, it’s about having something to complain about.

The GOP is not actually interested in the border. They are pulling a bait and switch, as they always do.
