Banning from owning just the specific breed they mutilated this time doesn’t go far enough, they should be banned from owning any breed of dog, or at the very least the entire range of breeds associated with cosmetic ear/tail mutilation.

From the pictures I’ve seen, can’t understand how anyone prefers the cropped ears look, the natural look is far more aesthetically appealing in my opinion.

You seriously think people who’ll gladly mutilate a puppy’s ears and sew them up with twine is gonna spring for BOAS surgery, or spinal surgery, or any of the myriad expensive procedures that a frenchie will almost certainly need at some point?
Should have been banned from keeping all animals. Give it a couple of years for the heat to die down and they’ll be happily cutting the ears off Dobermanns or Cane Corsos instead.

Consequences for animal cruelty in the country are meek as fuck, but it’s still good to see that are still sometimes some consequences at all.
€3000 is probably a fraction of what they have earned selling these dogs.
Should be 10 times that and imo more severe sentences. This is mutilation.
I will never ever forget when I was in the U.S. I was in house visiting someone and their dog sounded like it had late stages of some terrible lung problem.
It was making this really sad sounding, very weird bark. I asked was she ok and they explained she had been “debarked” – the vet had deliberately cut the dog’s vocal cords to make her quieter!!
I also discovered to my absolute horror it is very common over there to have cats declawed in the US. It’s an agonising procedure, akin to having the upper part of your fingers removed from the top joint.
Cats claws aren’t like human finger nails – they’ve a full mechanisms, very similar to the upper part of our fingers and are highly sensitive. It varies from state to state but estimated 25 – 43 percent of U.S. cats are declawed!!
Cats use their claws to climb, grip surfaces, manipulate objects and also in self defence. I’ve had couple of cats and neither of them ever scratched anything other than trees and scratching posts. The cat I have at the moment is absolutely aware that claws hurt and she pads you.
If you’re getting regularly scratched by a cat, you either haven’t socialised it or the cat thinks you’re an asshole, and usually with good justification. They don’t suffer fools and you’ll learn the hard way if you’re nasty to a cat. They’re not toys.
I’m glad to see this being taken seriously. Ireland needs to very heavily crack down on ear trimming and tail docking. It’s just cruel nonsense.
Also we really need to ban the breeding of dogs with faces that lead to extreme breathing difficulties and so on. There are some breeds that are basically extremely deformed by human selective breeding of utterly distorted shapes for fashion.
In addition, Judge Kennedy issued both parties with a lifetime disqualification order from owning American Bully dogs.
They shouldn’t be allowed own any dogs!
