Astur-Leonese, the transitionary language on the dialectal continuum between Spanish and Portuguese. It goes by Asturian in the Principality of Asturias, and Leonese in the region of León (País Llión), but both are just different names for the same language. Below is a description of the Astur-leonese language in the standard Asturian variety:

“L’asturianu fálase principalmente nel territoriu de la Comunidá Autónoma del Principáu d’Asturies, nel Norte del Estáu español. Les sos llendes xeográfiques son, al Oeste el Gallego-portugués y al sur y al este’l castellanu. Tamién se falen variantes de la llingua asturiana nuna pequeña parte del oeste de Portugal; Miranda, onde ye conocida por Mirandés, que goza de reconocimientu oficial, y nel norte y Oeste de les provincies de Llión y Zamora.

“L’asturianu ye una llingua románica que remanez directamente del llatín, mesmo que’l portugués,occitano, francés, castellanu o sardu. Foi formándose nel territoriu nel qu’agora se fala cola implantación del llatín trayíu polos romanos colos aportes de les llingües prerromanes que se falaben nel territoriu de los astures.

“Ye la llingua propia d’Asturies. Quier dicise, la llingua que se configuró dientro del territoriu que güei conocemos como Asturies. El castellanu llegó dempués, a partir del sieglu XIV, sobre too de la mano de funcionarios y mandatarios que l’alministración central unviaba pa ocupar puestos de poder políticu y eclesiásticu.
