Neighbour of mine who’s home is right at the entrance to the communal car park had building work done earlier this year with all the shit dumped in (and around) a skip he placed in the car park.
Three time I ended up with screws in my tyre but each time I found out while away from home. Presumably I had driven over a screw on my way out so it made it difficult to directly accuse him, but I had a word anyway and advised him his builders were not clearing up and that may have been the cause. He was a bit off with me but no major drama.
The very next day his wife brought her brand new Merc home and got two flats from screws…
And with the price of tyres these days it’s not funny
I once found the heel tip from a stiletto shoe in my tyre(with the nail).
How the fuck does that end up on the A1M?!
Best one I heard was an Ikea pencil.
Get a bunch more of them are you are going to be great in the snow.
If you frequent r/Justrolledintotheshop the amount of Americans who end up with bullet holes in their cars makes me glad that a screw in the tyre is about the worst we’ll suffer with.
Yeah, I’ve had 8 today already.
Don’t, I had a full on bolt pierce my tyre on a rural road about 2 years ago. When we got it off and looked at, they were surprised that the car tyre hadn’t just exploded
Yep – had to book new tyre for my car Friday. Try riding a motorcycle too, where you tend to spend more time in the centre or ‘gutter’ – it’s a monthly occurrence. Never see road sweepers anymore.
When it rains it tends to wash stuff like this out on the streets.
The day after a big rain there’s always a big queue outside my local tyre repair place.
Do you replace the tyre or get the hole repaired? Cost me £20 to get a hole repaired, and been sound for 18 months
We had a month of this happening to the same tyre (rear LHS) in different places around London. We thought it was over when it happened again in the black wall tunnel (we have tyre sensors). I heard it is open vans carrying building waste.
I had this last week on the M1, don’t know if it was the angle or what but it really ripped the tyre and was unrepairable
The poor tyre only had 500 miles on it.
Saving this image for when I don’t feel like going to work and can send it to my boss.
When you not only understand but come to terms with the fact that cars are huge mechanical machines, it starts to make a little bit more sense.
Builders in this country are fucking useless most the time.
Get more nails on the bloody pavement than in the actual wood 1/2 the time.
You want to get someone from r/Photoshop to look at that for you.
I once got a nice shiny screw in my tyre right outside a kwikfit. Of course they still charged me for fixing it because I couldn’t prove it came from them
I started my career out as a tyre fitter. It’s known that the people that get the most punctures are the people that drive where others don’t, like hatched markings, hard shoulders, tips (recycle centres) etc. also those with upset ex wife’s.
Thank yourself it’s a nail/screw, animal bones are quite common, as is cutlery and ratchet straps.
Neighbour where I used to live would put nails in what he considered “his” parking space on the street. This would happen to me almost bi-monthly. Couldn’t prove it was him, obviously, but it definitely was.
Since I moved I haven’t had a single nail in my tyres.
It’s the tyre fitters going out at night chucking stuff on the roads so they’ll get more business. Ask them if they’ve seen it before, they’ll usually say they have. Not even trying to hide it!
Just did a search for ‘magnetic broom’ and there seems to be a gap in the market.
On the plus side, tyre technology is amazing these days if you buy good ones. I’ve had several punctures and all of them were patched and driven many more miles with no issues.
I have a screw sticking out of my tire at the moment (it’s been there for 4 years), I don’t dare remove it. Somehow it keeps passing the MOT.
Touch wood I haven’t ever had this happen to me, but I always get a bit nervous driving past skips and construction sites…
I usually drive with a window slightly open so I can hear what’s going on outside. If I hear a periodic tapping sound that varies in frequency with the speed of the car, I stop at the next oportunity and check the tyres for foreign objects working their way through the tread. I developed the habit when I used to cycle thousands of miles per year.
Nailed it!
I spent a productive 15 minutes one evening picking up screws of all sizes that had fallen onto the road outside my house (a busy ish road, mostly busier in the day). Think someone mentioned a workers pickup had dropped them all/fell out the back. Was a total mess though, got a good two handfuls of different sizes. So some of us try to help out OP <3 Sucks though.
Oh I see the days end in Y for OP too. The amount of fucking screws we find in our tyres is unreal. Never had our tyres last more than a year. Had three of them replaced in November, only to find a screw in one last week during the MOT. Had a long drive from Manchester to London this time last year and discovered the day of that there was a screw in one of the tyres. It’s fucking endless and such an expensive and annoying waste. As if potholes didn’t ensure our roads were bad enough.
At least it’s in a repairable place and not close to the sidewall. If you have a Costco membership they will repair it for a tenner. If you bought your car from a dealership they probably do it for free.
