An Illustrative Hand-drawn Map of Finland

  1. Greetings! I am currently working on an illustrative hand-drawn map of Europe and just wrapped up Finland last night. Total drawing time was 21 hours plus many hours of research. I visited Finland back in 2019 for a week and had a lovely time sightseeing in Helsinki and visiting a friend in Tampere so working on Finland the past few weeks has been a joy. The orientation of the map is rather unique with north facing to the right in the map (see bottom right image for the map perspective I am using as a reference). This has allowed for much greater detail in Eastern Europe, Russia, and of course Finland!! Overall I have put in over 240 hours of work on the map and hope to be done in 2023. 2. This is very cool! However, Kouvola is missing “Pohjolatalo” 😀

Why is Suomineito on her back tho?

  3. Cool drawings.

Imo, not 100% perfect perspective. Like having Kuopio and Kajaani so close to West coast feels weird, those are still considered Eastern towns. But I appreciate the effort.
