  1. >Waited on by fans and a host of media, Nathan Vandergunst – better known as Acid – walked into Bruges correctional court on Thursday. Vandergunst had to appear in court after **a video last year mentioned the names of four former members of Reuzegom, the student club involved in the death of Sanda Dia.** The youtuber intended to “expose” some of the Reuzegom members with his video, which was taken offline by YouTube a few hours later. A few hours after its release, the video had already been viewed over 200,000 times.

    >The prosecution largely followed the plea of lawyer Wim De Colvenaer, who represents the ex-Reuzegommer and his parents – the owners of an Antwerp restaurant. The ex-Reuzegommer is asking for 1 euro in moral damages, his parents are demanding 200,000 euros for the damage suffered to their business.

    >Van Steenbrugge, on the other hand, decisively asked for the acquittal. The lawyer relied mainly on the fact that his client had been directly summoned without a criminal file. “There was no interrogation, no pv, no investigation … I have never experienced that in my career of almost 38 years,” the lawyer said. **Besides, according to Van Steenbrugge, the right to free speech is absolute.**

    >Acid said after the hearing that “he did not make any money from his videos”, as claimed at the hearing by lawyer De Colvenaer, who said the youtuber was only concerned about the money. “I have not earned anything from this, on the contrary, I have lost sponsors,” he said.

  2. Assizes? Because it’s a “press crime”? Is that relevant here? I don’t think Acid was convicted because of his opinion. But I’m not a lawyer.

  4. I recall reading he stated those names were publically available, it’s just that nobody want looking it up?

By which I assume he means court documents where it is all mentioned, that you can just go and look up?

    Is there anything to that?

Edit: found it!

  7. Well, how about they give him the same clear punishment most judges give to rapists. So write a paragraph or two about how is behaviour was not very ethical.

Or, if you really want to be strict, give him the same punishment as murderers, like the reuzegommers!

Weren’t those the guys that pretty much wrote the manual, followed the hazing on whatsapp, said not to take Sanda Dia to emergency or apologize to the parents, etc? Because that’s all very much being involved in my book.
