Prague has just signed a contract for a full revitalization of Václavské náměstí (Wenceslaus Square) – the bizarre quasi-highway will be removed. Pedestrian zone, two tree lines, and trams will take its place.

Very good. More pedestrian zones in all the european cities. That’s the right way
[Webpage](https://jakubcigler.archi/revitalizace-vaclavskeho-namesti) of the architects with more details and pics of the first phase (already finished).
I was there last week, I didn’t even realize that there was a road, very few cars on this square.
Although, Prague does have a huge problem with having parked cars everywhere, even in the old town.
Ehm, where did the metro/underground entrances vanish? 🤣
Good stuff
I’m a cyclist in Prague and I’m all for this. But calling that cobbled road in Vaclavske Naměsti a “quasi-highway” is a bit of an exageration. Cars hardly go faster than 15-20km/h over there.

Still, that’s definitely not a place for cars.
That’s what cities are supposed to look like these days! Good job!
For this one, even if you were a fan of car-oriented infrastructure, I think you can say it’s good that this monstrosity is getting put out of its misery. It’s too crammed to be a driveable road and it’s too car-focused to be a pedestrian-friendly path.
Folks over at r/fuckcars would love seeing this post.
Good, when I visited it didn’t look like a square to me, just a very wide road.
Too much concrete, you can have trees in center and nice shade in summer
That space in the middle, surrounded by car and tram traffic, seems pretty unattraktive. Why not put all the traffic on one side of the statue, and make the other a fully connected pedestrian area? And one more line of trees instead of that huge concrete pedestrian-frying area.
What about all the prostitution and drug sales ? Hope we don’t loose that
what the hell are those “benches”. Is asking for a normal bench with lumbar support too much? I swear designers always put those blocks in every place they renovate
Been here a few times but I only now realise that this road leads to literally nowhere except for some parking spots. (I guess it used to be possible to drive further in the past until the edge of the old city.)
Does anyone know where the tram line will be going to?
Excellent. Fuck cars. Gimme more trees and trams.
Looks like the recent development of public spaces in Vienna. I don’t understand the love for grey tiling, in terms of public space it comes across as really cold and inhospitable.
Looks like the main square of the Capitol in the latest hunger games movie
Nice, but it would have been nicer to me if they decided to move the left tram track next to the right one and fill everything from the left buildings to the right side of the monument with greenery. This way it still seems like to much concrete (or stone paving, whatever), and pedestrians are not very likely to hang around in the middle, surrounded by two tram tracks. But that’s just my opinion.
They used nice classic Tatra trams in the renders.
