  1. It is open.

You can walk and cycle across it just fine. Plenty of people do so every single day.

Why is it only “Closed” if it affects drivers?

And would a closed pedestrian bridge be given anything approaching the same prominence in the press?

  2. > Tony Devenish, whose London Assembly constitiuency includes the bridge, said: […] “As long as it remains closed, it should be renamed Sadiq Khan Bridge – a road to nowhere that’s absolutely no use to anyone.”

Tony Devenish blind to anyone who is not in a car, as per usual

  3. > “Hammersmith Bridge: Thames crossing repair bill soars to £250million raising ~~fears~~ **hopes** it won’t ever reopen to traffic”

There was a weird typo in that line that I fixed.

It is a *good* thing that Hammersmith Bridge remains closed to motor vehicles. As a local resident, the neighbourhood has been utterly transformed from a polluted, congested rat run of motor vehicles racing through the area to a cleaner, healthier, greener neighbourhood for people to live and enjoy. I now love spending time down around the bridge and by the riverside without choking on toxic fumes.

The Hammersmith Bridge is a 137-year-old Grade II*-listed iron structure. It was not built to deal with endless numbers of increasingly heavy motor vehicles. It should never be opened to motor vehicles and should be purposefully transformed into a pedestrian and cyclist-only crossing.

  4. Does the closure of the bridge cause problems for public transport? TfL should have figures for this. If so repair it and open for buses. I don’t use taxis and Uber type services, so I can’t comment on them.

  5. I hardly believe anyone can make a convincing rational argument to spend 250000000 pounds to reopen the bridge for cars.
Let’s keep it as a pedestrian&Bikes crossing and use this money on something else

  6. I mean realistically it should be opened up for Buses and Emergency vehicles, will help with public transport links to get into Hammersmith. Otherwise I think it’s fine for it to forever remain closed to private vehicles, even as someone myself who could benefit from it.
