Hello there! Not sure if the flair is correct so I’ll be brief.

We bought a pice of land on Finland. It was a legal purchase in 2018.

We were hoping to start building our home this year but my spouse was told that we couldn’t do it, because we are not Finnish citizens/residents. We’re Mexican.

I know that foreigners need a [permit](https://yle.fi/news/3-11043532) to buy property since 2020, but does it extend to construction?

I know a lawyer is the ideal person to ask this to, but I’m just checking beforehand.

  1. Just apply for the building permission from the municipality. Same restrictions apply to you as for citizens. Either someone didn’t know what they were talking about, were intentionally misleading or miscommunication happened.

Something to get you started, in Finnish: https://www.rakentaja.fi/artikkelit/11947/rakennusluvan_hakeminen.htm

If you don’t speak official languages, you may want to hire someone to do the paperwork and handling the construction for you.
