Ross Greer explains : ‘Why not’ invite Erdogan to Scotland?

  1. I didn’t like how Humza was focussing more on Gaza than Scotland, but I at least respected his strong moral fiber. Now he does this?? Turkey isn’t Russia but they have done a lot of awful stuff, without excuses. If you are going to lead according to morals, which I completely respect, then you need to actually follow those morals.

You don’t have to reject Erdogan; but don’t roll out a red carpet or invite him. Invite a Spanish official possibly – they’ve had a good moderate stance on Israel and Palestine. Or Zelensky! Or pretty much any other European leader.

  2. Missing one important thing that should also disqualify him from being an honoured guest: continuing the Turkish state policy of Armenian genocide denial.

    Otherwise spot on.

  3. It’s so that Colin Mackay can aggressively question him in person about surgery tourism.

  4. The problem Ross Greer has is not that he’s wrong, he’s got a valid argument.

The problem with Ross Greer is that smug certainty he has and that condescending way of talking to people when he is thinking “bless” just because they don’t agree / understand what he is arguing. It reminds me at times of Jo Swinson.

  5. The only reason Turkey is in NATO is because it’s better to have them on our side than not in a confrontation with Russia, or simply containing them from breaking out of the Black Sea/Turkish airspace. Erdogan is a neo-imperialist hellbent on resurrecting the glory days of the Ottoman Empire. I can’t stand Ross Greer, but he’s right on the money. And this only continues to paint a harrowing picture of Humza Yousaf – especially given his track record of anti-white sentiments – who seems interested in inviting in a known war hawk and religious fundamentalist into our country.

  6. From the FoI request – the comment was if Erdogan was already in the UK – then he should come to Scotland as well. It wasn’t Humza inviting him for a state visit – though you would have thought so from the reaction,

  7. Well said Ross.

As well as the obvious why not reasons – there is also the question of Why did he ?

  8. ohhh, right wing religious extremist & would be dictator…shall I go on?

  9. The better question that eludes Greer as expected is “Why invite Erdogan at all?”

What possible reason is there to waste government time on such a meeting?

Even if there is a reason for Humza to meet far off heads of state, why Erdogan?

The only reason I could think of is that Erdogan is muslim and might actually agree to meet him. Such amazing justification.

  10. I am absolutely not joking when I say at this point Humza is becoming a national security risk. MI5 keep files on people like him.

He will have major trouble going through UK Government vetting in the future. He has unorthodox political opinions on the public record and a brother-in-law who is seemingly involved in the drugs trade.
