Breton culture thriving in Polish city of Poznan

  1. Poznan is also home to (I think) the largest Silesian speaking community in Poland – Silesian is a Polish dialect with Germanic influences and it is almost unintelligible to a Polish speaker to the point that there is a strong movement to see the language endorsed as an official Polish language.

For those who speak Polish and love the language seeing examples of the older dialects is extremely interesting and a part of Polish history. Silesian is still spoken by Silesian families and it would be sad for this to no longer be the case. There are a number of other dialects with equally as interesting entomology and history. Kashubian is another famous example and it is entirely alien to a Polish speaker due to the strong Baltic influences the language picked up. They even have their own alphabet!

Breton culture in Poznań is great but really Poznań shouldn’t be known for this. It is the heartland of an old Polish form and it never gets enough attention.
