  2. I think this is reflecting the decline of a consensus-building neoliberalism throughout the wider west, with some nations starting to move to the right (Poland et al) and some to the left (Germany etc).

    I think in the long run it does not bode well for a puppies n’ rainbows, kumbaya united EU. Nations will increasingly chafe against edicts that in so many ways are already further to the left than the general population. And rule by fiat has never been a good look for democracy.

    I don’t think it’s going to happen in the next five years, and maybe not even in the next 10. But there is a decided Balkanizing of political opinion occurring throughout most of the Western democracies. And it will be very hard to reach consensus with a divide that is only growing broader.

  3. It really feels like Covid was to some extent blessing and nightmare for governing parties.

    In countries like Lithuania, UK, Germany, Italy aka where Conservatists were learning in early 2020 those countries had a great surge of support mainly due to successful first covid reactions. Although now most of those countries who were rather conservative turned liberal and vice versa (Norway)
