Drone video shows scale of looting in Papua New Guinea

Drone footage showed mass looting in Papua New Guinea’s capital, Port Moresby, amid widespread looting and arson after a day of protests as extra police were sent to quell unrest.

On Wednesday, shops were set on fire and citizens robbed and assaulted after police and public sector workers protested over a pay cut that officials blamed on an administrative glitch, several people died in Port Moresby and other cities.

On Thursday residents of the capital were asked to stay at home, while many businesses remained closed and all public transport was halted.

  1. Hi Papua New Guinea, come and join Indonesia, we are pleased and welcome you if you want to be our next province😂😂😂😂

  2. PM should resign. stop looking for answers by saying it's a computer glitch. Did you forgot that your govt just passed a tax law to increase the tax for every workers working in the country both in public and private sector.

  3. I was there in 1996 and it was the most dangerous place I have been to in my life and I have been to 56 countries. The hotel locked us in after 10pm. Beautiful country though and most people are peace loving especially outside urban areas. Rascals and alcohol are the biggest social problems.

  4. The stupidity is that you can only do this once and after the problems especially for the less mobile are twice as high. It is such a dumb selfish action that can not compeet with any other action. Shame for and to the people and secondly a gouvernment and commerce having let it being a solution.
