How Chinese leadership sees Taiwan president-elect Lai Ching-te • FRANCE 24 English
Speak to our correspondent yenna Lee hello to you U yenna so Troublemaker one way that Beijing has characterized him what else have you heard about Li chingu from uh China’s uh leadership well Chinese authorities and Chinese State media have in turn described lighting to as a DieHard succession a separatist and a Severe
Danger he’s viewed as being even more anti- Beijing than saying Wen China just won’t let go of that statement he made back in 2017 when he described himself as a pragmatic worker for Taiwan Independence statements that he has since clarified and ton down but the
Fact of the ma the fact of the matter is Beijing despises the party he works for the DPP and the direction this party has been taking the progressives have been leaning into taiwan’s changing Society focusing on rights issues and presenting new political narratives about what it means to be a Taiwanese discussing a
Taiwanese identity that is separate to that of China that’s what particularly irks Beijing for authorities here Taiwan is an integral part of its territory the these elections and their outcomes are for them internal matters domestic affairs ahead of the elections in fact they framed this vote as a choice
Between War and Peace insinuating then that choosing lie is a provocation for them so we can definitely expect some heightened tensions ahead of Lies Inauguration in may even if us China relations have improved and know while you were speaking um we got a on the wires Ling just saying we hope that
China will understand that only peace benefits uh both sides I’m guessing that’s a bit optimistic where do you think this will leave um cross straight ties well it’s going to be very Rocky uh well we can expect uh more of the same as what we’ve been seeing in recent
Years and perhaps worse if Beijing increases its military pressure in the region as it has been doing I don’t expect any sort of communication to be reestablished between the DPP and Beijing as lighting D much like his predecessor outgoing saying W refuses to agree to the 1992 consensus now this is
The idea that there is only one China with each side opting to agree to disagree on which China they’re actually talking about but fi at Taiwan is already an independent and Sovereign Nation so there’s no need to officially declare independent and there’s also no need to pretend that there’s only one a
China and remember this was a continuity ticket lie with size of Vice President much of her trademark policies on C cross straight issues were likely to continue such as type’s efforts to increase cooperation with southeast Asia South Asia Australia New Zealand as well as focusing on developing the archipelago’s military defenses another
Key person to look out for is the VP elect taiwan’s former Envoy to Washington who likely to use her contacts and experience to try and boost taiwan’s presence on the international stage however the dpp’s policies might not always H go through though it all does depend on if they manage to win a
Comfortable majority in the legislative un or not or if not they’ll be forced to compromise with um other parties on these issues all right Yen thank you very much y reporting from Beijing
Lai delivered an unprecedented third consecutive term for the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) after a raucous campaign in which he pitched himself as the defender of Taiwan’s democratic way of life. But communist China, which claims Taiwan as its own, has in the past slammed Lai as a “severe danger” and views him as “as being even more anti-Beijing than Tsai Ing-wen”, says FRANCE 24 correspondent Yena Lee. “The fact of the matter is Beijing despises the party he works for,” she adds, reporting live from Beijing.

Taiwan is in a disaster, second Ukraine, you do not deserve your origin, you chose the world with immorality , you forgot your civilization, you are lost
People calling Taiwan a democracy have no idea what's really going on there. Do you even know the government in Taiwan shut down a news outlet because it criticized the government too much? Do you know that the government seized all assets of the biggest opposition party without any court ruling?
🎉🎉🎉 Taiwan 🎉🎉🎉😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊💪👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Taiwan is Taiwan. China for Democracy. Freedom for everyone!!!
Lai looks like the last emperor of Taiwan.
I hope one day Hawaii, Alaska and Guam will soo seek independence too.
they really want ukraine 2.0
Freedom wins!

ROC is dead! ! COMMUNIST CHINA PRC has ONLY enemies on its land Taiwan Province ! The Taiwanese areNOT CHINESE ! The DPP have colluded with a foreign powers. USA Japan to meddle & interfere in island Taiwan Province, Te Taiwanese are NOT CHINESE but occupiers !💓
Regardless of the election outcome, Taiwan remains an integral part of China.
Taiwanese are going to be like ukren
Communists suck.
Ah, the details – after the election, the legislature is now controlled by the pro-China KMT. Lai (the DDP party) in the last election cycle got 57% of votes, this time barely 40% so the trend is more pro-China over time. The young voters don't believe President Lai will lead to prosperity and peaceful re-unification. Western analysts if full of BS. The channel is better than most comedy shows though!!
Safety First 👍👌
Taiwan elected a leader who will stand up to China 😌👌💯
Lai is not important to China. The US is. Taiwan under Lai will just be a western puppet just like S Korea, Japan and lately the Philippines.
Ah what a wonderful sight of this comment. People saying Taiwan Independence. Western say Taiwan independence. But what about Hawai American??. No independence?? Yes cause you massacare it all American wonderful
Congratulations?! As a Taiwanese, I want to ask, do you all know only 40% of the people who cast their votes voted for Lai? The fact is 60% of the people in Taiwan wanted DPP to step down and unfortunately, this was not the case. DPP is the most corrupt political party there ever was in Taiwan. During the pandemic, they decided NOT to purchase any certified vaccine for people here because they have other agendas. The often use the media to portray themselves internationally as a TRUE Democracy protector. Let me ask all of you, WHO exactly in Taiwan is against Democracy??? DPP didn't invite it and sure enough didn't even try to protect it by often trying to provoke China and putting all of us at risk. In short, this is going to be a DISASTER.
CCP , what you gonna do? Taiwanese won, our next President is Lai Ching Te.
We are not alone! Why not face reality!
we Taiwan is already a Independent Sovereign country called Republic of China Taiwan 😜
Congratulations to Taiwanese President-elect Lai Ching-te and to the people of Taiwan. Long live Taiwan.😀
