Bangladesh turnout low in election set to keep PM Hasina in power • FRANCE 24 English

Today only a couple of incidents of violence has been reported on contrary to expectations of major incidents because uh uh a huge number of troops were deployed to conduct this election uh which will be remembered as a one party election in the history of the country as you just mentioned prime

Minister shik Hina is uh fighting for a fifth term and most um most expectedly she will be winning this election 16 political parties including the major opposition parties the party the Bangladesh nationalist party has boycotted this election saying that they have not uh got any any confirmation

From shik H’s government of creating a caretaker government under whom uh the there could be a fair and free and fair election could be conducted so uh this election is uh far from being what political um experts would call a normal election navita why is this election being closely watched

Abroad yes since a couple of months Western countries and the U countries has been putting intense pressure on Bangladesh to conduct a free and fair election uh they are concerned that if major political parties uh especially the BNP which had a 35% of vote share in the previous election is boycotting then

This election cannot have the credibility and Trust of people they are concerned that their nonparticipation is a big dent on democracy and is going to create a further political instability in the country and also the runup to the election has been marked by violence and arrest of thousands of opposition

Political uh leaders and activists uh in fact the couple of last days has also uh reported attack on schools trains and polling stations and for the Western countries Bangladesh is an important and a strategic country in South Asia to extend their influence in the indopacific region and for Bangladesh it

Is important to keep its Western allies satisfied because if not then there is a fear of repercussions in in the form of punitive actions like sanctions or visa restrictions

Bangladeshis largely stayed away from the polls in a general election on Sunday set to give Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina a fourth straight term, after a vote boycotted by the main opposition party and marred by violence. FRANCE 24’s regional correspondent Navodita Kumari has the details.

  1. India's RAW was behind the victory of the world most heinous, dangerous, ferocious Mafia woman hasina. People of Bangladesh will never forget RAW 's naked involvement in Bangladesh politics.

  2. As a Bangladeshi it is very painful to live under a fascist and vote stealer for the last 15 years. There is no freedom here. Awami League has brought this country to the brink of destruction.

  3. Brother got 40% not 27% votes and through this there are dummy votes and fake votes and these 15 years have absorbed the country, brother, my common people could not speak their mind in any way. All the boys have been jailed, everyone in the country is scared now you are our last hope 😭😭🙏🙏

  4. The BNP (Bangladesh National Party) is funded by Jamaat-e-Islami, a known terrorist organization with ties to Pakistan and supporters of the 1971 Genocide by the Pakistan Army against East Pakistan in what is known as Bangladesh today.

For decades, the independent nation of Bangladesh has prospered under the rule of Sheikh Hasina, a moderate ruler of the Awami League Party with support from all four religious groups: Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, and moderate Muslims, which compose 95% of the population of Bangladesh.

The BNP has tried to thwart democratic rule in Bangladesh for just as long. Right now, the balance of power in Bangladesh has shifted for the West to support the extremist fundamentalist BNP group, and Saudi Arabia, who is funding the transfer of finance and arms to cause dissent within Bangladesh. Why? Because two large reserves of petroleum were just located in the village city of Sylhet in Bangladesh.

Do not be fooled by the disinformation campaign from the mainstream media. This is about oil, just as the Iraq War was in 2001. History always repeats itself, because we never learn from it.

  5. Every time BNP boycott this election. They want PM position & power. Every times BNP wants caretaker government. They don't hold elections. They nullify elections. Finally Awami League won again which will bring good side for the country

  6. we are general people of Bangladesh. There are no democracy. There are no freedom to vote.this awami league is going to be autocratic ruler. 80℅ people don’t want awami league

  7. It is not a neutral non-partisan election, it is a party election, general public is boycotting this election 🇧🇩🇧🇩🇧🇩🇧🇩
