Everyone in NATO should flat out ignore it and go about continuing the process for Ukraine, Finland, Sweden, and all the rest for joining, should they continue to want to.
It’s completely irrelevant what Russia thinks about it, and should be treated as such. As much as they have been able to control political rhetoric in Ukraine and elsewhere in recent years, it really should be up to the country itself.
Hopefully sooner rather than later there will be a MAP for Ukraine and whilst Russia will cry foul it will only really demonstrate the benefits of joining.
US and NATO must counterattack Putin’s intimidations, sanction its country, block all product imports, freeze Russian elites foreign bank assets and shut down Russian embassies.
Keep Russia under strict watch, Putin has gone mad and he’s eager to push the conflict strategy.
And do it now, before Putin’s fascist American friends run the white house again.
Yes, the West needs to stop simply being reactive to Russia’s actions — it’s about time to get proactive, show some teeth and the will to bite. And the talks happening this week, right as we speak, are a perfect opportunity to do so.
But unfortunately, even current reactive measures are slow, weak and introduced reluctantly, so going “shock and awe” requires really drastic change of pace. Can’t see EU members of NATO doing this.
