  1. >Last week, Umm Hussein, who is in her 70s and originally from the southern Lebanon village of Khiam, received a call from “the bank” asking her to come and collect some money at the nearby branch.
But according to her grandson Hassan Shukeir, Umm Hussein doesn’t even have a bank account.
“They asked her if she was in Khiam, and the call ended when she said she was in Beirut,” Shukeir told AFP.
Shortly after the call was terminated, an Israeli strike targeted the house next to hers in the village, the grandson said.

  2. So Israel is still trying to avoid civilian casualties while Hezbollah still targeting civilians with rockets. Nothing new here.

  3. Lebanese welcome to roof knocking. You will get used to it while Hezbollah exists.

Sorry, not sorry. Live long and prosper.

  4. How long until people claim that Israeli is perpetrating a “genocide” in Lebanon?

  5. Probably the scammers in a call centre in India. If its not Microsoft support, its Bank support with a error in your balance that needs you to transfer 1 million to them so that they can fix it up.

  6. This some weird conspiracy connecting Jews to banks again?

  7. Sounds like a scam caller and one of many air strikes. What a Pulitzer price winning piece of journalism here.

  8. “Hello, is your fridge running?… better go catch it!”

This is kinda neat and hard to prove at the same time.. interesting though.

  9. IDF was doing this in Gaza as well. IIRC, the caller openly warned of an impending air strike instead of using nuanced language.

  10. If you read the article, its pretty clear they’re trying to make sure theres as few civilians around as possible before a strike. That isnt a bad thing.

  11. Am I totally misremembering, or in the early days of the current Gaza conflict, didn’t IDF phone Gaza City residents minutes before bombings?

  12. Pretty sure letting terrorists run your government is what is preceding the attacks.

  13. Israel evicted almost everyone from all the villages and towns along the Israeli border. Last week, an anti task missile killed a woman and her son.

Lebanon is a sovereign nation with no territorial dispute with Israel yet keeps attacking Israel.

  14. That’s odd. I get spam calls from “the bank” and “social security “ all day. I wonder if I’m on the attack list.
