  1. Could someone explain this in more detail?

As early as 2022, the Estonian Ministry of the Interior called on the Estonian Orthodox Church to distance itself from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and Metropolitan Yevgeny made a clear statement on the matter.

    >Our Church opposes any wars, she is for peace and for the peaceful resolution of any conflicts,” the EOC said in the report.

    What has changed?

  2. I’m speculating here, but as far as I’m concerned I have zero doubts he’s just a FSB asset, as is tradition with eastern european clergymen and the old secret police. Except that in ruzzia, the KGB never went through any sort of reform and simply rebranded.

Or to give a more nuanced context, while the new security services of the old communist countries still have members of the old secret police (or their descendants), we do not fear them where we live.

This is not something one can say about ruzzia. And the church is a full member of that apparatus, as the new secret service has realised that the church is an invaluable asset for both on the ground information as well as propaganda.

  3. >Estonia has announced it will not renew the residence permit of Metropolitan Eugene of the Estonian Orthodox Church, calling him a threat to national security.

    >The Russian Orthodox clergyman, whose full name is Valeri Reshetnikov, will have to leave the country by February 6, Estonian public broadcaster ERR reported Thursday.

    >His public statements as the representative of the Moscow Patriarchate were found to be in support of Russia, which is waging an all-out war against Estonia’s ally Ukraine.

“Representatives of the Ministry of the Interior have repeatedly met with Reshetnikov to explain to him that he needs to stop vindicating the Kremlin regime and Russia’s military actions in his statements,”
