>warnings from the company’s boss that it may require a government subsidy to survive.
surely the company has failed then and should be nationalised 100% as the bosses cant meet the expectations
Cannot afford to operate means after the company has spun off the profitable arm and will leave what’s left to the taxpayer.
So people who work 9-5 Monday to Friday will no longer be allowed to receive parcels or letters that require signatures…. Neat
I’m waiting for phase 3.
Removal of all last mile delivery. Your post will be put in a parcel locker and you will receive a push notification on the Royal Mail app. After paying the convinience fee you can unlock the locker door. Mail left for more than 48 hours will be sold to Belgian identity thieves for resale.
The wonders of privatisation again . For fuck’s sake.
Once again, privatisation proving that competition provides a better service to consumers!
Errm.
Another privatisation success story.
I really hope they bring in power to stop the ability to sell off national assets without a referendum… not that labour will do this.
We have referendums on things people know little about such as Brexit but governments can sell off national assets and services whenever they like, without consulting the people that paid for them.
Even in the US the postal service is run by the government.
I remember that it was Vince Cable who architected this failed privatisation.
Any subsidy should come with the government taking shares, like we did with the banks. Eventually it should just be renationalised.
On the flip side, not delivering letters on Saturdays is not a big deal in this day and age, most people barely get anything but junk mail anyway.
Changing the USO would require an act of Parliament, and it’s hard to see the current government managing to push that though before they finally get kicked out.
But if you were going to drop down to a only 5 days delivery, I wonder if it would make more sense to drop one of the weekdays and keep Saturdays?
Royal mail arrived they only company that don’t leave parcels in our porch, it’s madness
Stupid to have sold it off anyway. It shouldn’t be run purely for profit.
No one expects the RAF to turn a profit but they are an essential part of our infrastructure. The post is the same.
Pretty sure they already have based on the deliveries we have had missed.
I’m sure the Tories won’t bail them out seeing how they hate socialism so much.
It is now a private company, so no. Seeing as it is actually our money, the public should stand up and protest.
Not only that, the way they have treated the support master for nearly a quarter of a century, I think if they get bailed out, there would be riots.
Cant remember last time i received a letter or parcel from Royal Mail. Even banks send stuff via the app now.
I can still remember when Royal Mail did two delivies a day; morning and afternoon. How far they’ve fallen. It’s £1.25 to send a basic letter now. The price went up TWICE last year as opposed to the usual once. So to sum up, it now costs us astronomically MORE to get LESS post delivered. Royal Mail needs to be re-nationalised. A postal service is a national service, not something that should be handled by greedy idiots with pointless management degrees.
Sadly though, the Tories aren’t interested, nor is “status quo” Starmer, who has all but promised us that nothing is going to change now if he becomes PM.
Ffs just who is home to receive anything on a week day? They should deliver Saturday and Sunday by default. instead of all the weekdays. And all these high street stores open 10to6pm it’s just stupid this country is so backward. Who is going to next to buy work pants when they’re all at the office! Open 11to 8 or even 9pm stupid! It’s good for the restaurant trade too with everyone out and about later. You want to save all these pubs then work later!
Yes let’s axe post on the day most people are at home to receive parcels.
It’s time put this one trick pony to sleep… it’s unfair that a lot of hard working staff are being screwed by incompetent management and Government.
Ofcom is pathetic. All the regulators are. None are fit for purpose.
If you cannot run a critical monopoly profitably, then it should be nationalised.
Privatisation has failed.
Let’s be real here though everyone, all I ever get is bad news via the post. I’m happy for it to be abolished. Send me parcels or emails, I’m not interested in crappy letters.
You just know this whole mess will somehow be blamed on the Unions.
An abject failure of privatisation. It should never have happened .
Weird that it was profitable and working fine before it was sold off to the government’s mates. 🤔
I fondly remember the days when we had 1st post early in the mornings followed by a 2nd post in the afternoons. And when buying stamps didn’t involve checking the bank balance.
For fuck sake. RM just gets worse and worse as time passes from privatization.
Royal Mail boss grilled over £140,000 bonus as union threatens six more months of strikes
During a Commons hearing, Royal Mail boss Simon Thompson was grilled by MPs over his annual salary of £540,000 and the £140,000 bonus he was awarded.
Why Saturday why not a day that isn’t next to Sunday? (the day where we already have no mail) wouldn’t tues-fri be better day to stop delivering mail?
What’s he replacing it with? Them owls from Harry Potter?
how much more can they cut out of Royal Mail ?
the Royal Mail delivery offices are now open 8-10am cut back from 8 to 17, no saturday post, some of the letters recently got about 50% more expensive.
what else?
Didn’t get post today anyway. Last week my street was completely skipped from the delivery schedule twice.
Wasn’t sure they still delivered mail at all tbh. I posted my nan a Xmas card and birthday card at the start of December and she still doesn’t have them lol. I received a letter from the hospital this week that was dated November
The majority of people are already getting their mail limited as they’ve made the deliveries so long they’re unable to be completed unless the postie fancies overtime every single day.
Hopefully the fact that mails not delivered on a Saturday will actually give postpeople a lot more weekends off, and parcels will still be delivered over the weekend. Even the union are endorsing this now.
Coming soon to Amazon Prime: your post on a Saturday for only 9.99 a month
I thought the privatization meant they wanted to do MORE delivery days. Why the 180?
