> We completely reject the coalition’s planned change to the nationality law. It is simply not necessary, but harmful. Our criticism relates in particular to the fundamental acceptance of dual or multiple citizenship and the shortening of naturalization periods. What would be necessary, however, would be to include acceptance of Israel’s right to exist as an additional prerequisite. If we were in government, we would do everything we can to reverse the law.

How likely do you think this is?

  1. They’ll never win an absolute majority, so it depends on the negotiations with their coalition partners.

  2. Who is supposed to carry these changes with them? None of the traffic light parties will, they won’t work with Linke, and one would hope they have enough of a spine left not to work with the AfD. That leaves them 0 options.

So basically, they’re pandering to ultra-conservatives on a promise they’ll never have to actually put into action.
