Though I have think about it a little longer, but I tend to be in favor of the idea that one should be judged according to their own believes. So I don’t see the issue of having the Nazi carrying a number on their foreheads and have their lives fully tracked and traced while working in a fenced labor camp, all protected from fearful dynamics called life. Then they are all close together, feeling save and pure. Sure, they may have a single dictator telling them which lawn they have to weed this time; just a dumb recorder on repeat, but let’s not tell them.
Is AfD in power?
There is some actual “Wir sind das Volk” mood right now. Protests have been ongoing for the whole week. Today alone there were demonstrations in over 40 places, from small towns to major cities. Yesterday it was 250.000 people today it may be well over 500.000
We should all remember the millions that died to rid the world of nazis. We owe them to keep fascists and hate groups out of politics.
I am in favour of Remigration of AfD supporters. True Germans do not vote AfD.
Boomers were a mistake
Yet no mention of the thousands of farmers protesting against the far left tax increase.
r/europe shutting up about AFD protests challenge
(Impossible)
ELI5 – what makes the AFD Nazis? Like what specifically?
I’m an American and I’m skeptical every time I hear that term thrown around these days.
The Munich demonstration was registered for 25,000 participants and had to be shut down after an hour because between 100,000 (police estimate) and 250,000 (organisers’ estimate) came. I’ve never seen so many people in the city centre. We were stuck in the subway going there as the network was overloaded and the driver just started playing his Spotify playlist over the speakers. Good fun.
The protests are ongoing until March, yes?
This comment is going to get a lot of dislikes. The word facism is being thrown around a lot towards the right today. What we are seeing at the moment is literal facist attempts by the left to overthrow democracy in Germany. The German government is currently discussing measures to take away **basic human rights** from members of the AfD party – this is not a joke and not hyperbolic. Look it up. State funded media (the main channels broadcasting the main news in Germany) and the parties currently in power are talking about this option daily now and are seriously discussing taking away basic human rights from people and banning the party all together. We are talking about a party (AfD) that is not only democratically elected, but was strictly founded on the German constitution and acts strictly within these boundries. We are not talking about the NPD (nazi party) or some other idiotic extremist party. If you don’t believe this, look up the party program – which is something nobody at these protests has done – and judge for yourselves. The deportation goals by the AfD are not extreme either, they are strictly within German and humanitarian laws. The current chancellor himself has said the exact talking points of the AfD when he ran for office. This got him elected and he has not acted out any of his promised to decrease migrant criminality in this country, but the exact contrary. I have also seen people spreading lies about party membery of the AfD wanting to put people in camps. As always, just look it up for yourselves. Read the party program, watch interviews with the members, look up everything that has proof of people actually saying things and judge for yourselves. There will be no camps, no inhumane treatments, simply deporting criminal migrants who have no humanitarian or constitutional right to be in Germany (or Europe for that matter). You may disagree with that if your super far-left, but that’s fine. We can disagree. Doesn’t mean that I will call you any names or will try to ban you like the left is currently attemting.
Make no mistake, the AfD is a democratic party, period. Now: Do nazis vote for the AfD? Yes. Do antifa freakshows vote for the parties currently in power like Grüne and SPD? Yes. Idiots exist and have the right to vote. A fifth of the German population (we are talking about more than 15 Million people here) are not Nazis. These are normal people who have been f*cked by the current government. These people have worked their entire lives only to find out that their pensions decrease by the year while watching illegal migrants cashing checks at the bank every month without having to work. This is not nazi talk. If you think it is you have serious problems.
The number of people who would vote for the AfD in the next election is rising weekly because the unfathomable incompetence and semi-facist (now crossing into straight facist) measures of the current Government are simply unacceptable to most people.
So to the people who are supporting a ban of a democratic party and taking away basic human rights from people because you happen to simply disagree with: You’re always asking yourselves what you would have done in WW2 in your great-grand-partents places. You’re walking in their footsteps right now.
Can someone pls ELI5 what is going on there?
Does anyone know of there are any signs of the protests spreading beyond Germany? I mean this is hardly a purely German problem
In December Reuters reported the AfD is polling at their highest numbers ever. (don’t kill the messenger)
Why do you think that is?
are they doing the whole “if you’re against immigration you’re a nazi” tactic?
the ascension of thsee far right parties is because of the current governmanets that can’t find solutions to the criminality problem and immigrants… the moderate politicians should finally take knowledge of those problems and stop ignoring them
350.000 people in Berlin alone. Amazing❤️
This is literally a protest against democracy and calling everyone you don’t agree with Nazi’s. These people are just childish that cannot accept a loss. Come on… Do these people have brains at all?
You know what’s gonna happen if you ban those guys while the problems they claim they can solve remain unaddressed, right? It’ll not turn people sympathetic to those things away from them, it’ll turn their leaders into martyrs and give credence to all their fear mongering instead.
Those far right parties are only getting so much popularity in europe because the politicians who support liberal democracies don’t have the balls to address the legitimate concerns of a big portion of the population, they bury their heads in the sand blaming the Russian boogeyman for all their problems, while the far right takes advantage of those issues to grow.
Democracy has always been about compromise. Next time you meet someone who has concerns over something like immigration, try to understand why exactly they think that, instead of immediately labeling them a racist nazi and whatever else because this is one of the things that drives them straight into the arms of the far right, it’s what actually destabilizes democracy.
“Oh, but we couldn’t have compromised with Hitler and the nazis back in the 30s.”
I agree, but if the Weimar government had been more competent in addressing the multitude of issues that German society had back then, maybe Hitler wouldn’t have gotten as much support from the normal people as he did and might not have even risen to power.
Authoritarian strongmen have a real easy time subverting and taking down weak and incompetent democracies, but that’s not the case with strong and competent ones.
I hate AfD as much as the next guy, but unless the government actually takes the immigration isssue seriously, they will continue to grow, even if 30% hates them.
Please Germans vote good
We should be equally appalled at radical right wing Nazis and radical leftest communists. Neither ideology has any place in modern democracy! We need to be united in a centrist approach 👍
Whilst obvious I oppose the AFD, I always cringe when I see these types of protests because they just ignore the fundamental issues as to why the far right is rising, yes get out and protest, but also its time for mainstream parties to offer solutions to these issues, without compromising there morals
Fascist! Nazi! Until you’re on the receiving end of some violence from a cultural enricher. Good luck to you.
If germans don’t want foreigners in their country, so be it. It’s their land, they can do with it whatever they want.
I don’t think this’ll change the minds of the more than 10 million who would vote for AfD according to the polls..
