Cold weather aids Ukrainian artillerymen against Russian forces near Bakhmut

Ukrainian soldiers fighting Russian forces near Bakhmut said on Wednesday (January 10) that the frost actually makes it easier for them to move around.

Firing from a captured Russian 2B16 Nona-K mortar, one Ukrainian soldier told Reuters that frosty weather without precipitation allowed drones to “see everything”.

Last month, the commander of Ukraine’s armed forces Valeriy Zaluzhnyi said Ukrainian forces were resolved to defend any corner of the country, be it in Maryinka or Bakhmut or Avdiikva, two other towns in the country’s east subject to months of fighting.

Bakhmut was captured by Russian troops in May and Ukrainian forces have been trying to secure nearby villages in a counteroffensive launched soon after.

  2. Stay strong chaps. I also hope they get as much cold weather gear and supplies as possible. I’ve seen recent footage that shows that shockingly, Trenchfoot is making a comeback.😰 This weather is also very bad for drone batteries as it massively cuts them down unless they can keep them warm. Something we’ve usually been told never to do, but in the cold Ukrainian and Russian weather, it is generally preferred.
    We need to help Ukraine no matter what to get through this now. They cannot be allowed to be forced to go on the back foot.

  18. Now fully fascist Russia turned it's economy into a war-economy and is now able to produce 10 milion artillery shels per year. The EU promised Ukraine to deliver 1 million shells a year, only to realize it won't be able to deliver more than 0.5 milion. That's how desperate the situation is. As for drones on the battlefield, Ukraine is outnumbered 4:1. What a shame and incompetence that the Western Allies, whose economic power is 20 times stronger that that of Russia, are not able to deliver an adequate help to Ukraine even after 2 years of the ongoing war. NATO was founded and kept primarily as a defense block against Russia and now when Russia's evil nature unfolded fully and materialized into a huge, full-scale genocidal agression, NATO members are not able to provide adequate support to the brave country who decided to fight this evil on it's own a pay unimaginable price for it.
