Given that Shapps has been 4 different people, I wouldn’t trust him to count Army personnel correctly.
What Ukraine war has shown us, is that the side with more drones wins.
Having a large standing army is nice, but instead the money should go to drone production and R@D.
Good luck holding a defensive position with two squaddies and more hardware than they’ve got hands to man.
I’m still perplex why Shapps in in government.
This is the dodgy man who sold “get rich quick scheme” to earn his fortunes.
We all seen those scams “earn thousands a week on your phone, no skills needed” ads.. that’s shapps… and he’s in government… oh how bend this government is
I agree with him on this one. Warfare is going to change dramatically in the coming years. The defence contractors are all putting far more emphasis on AI, with the goal of reducing the numbers of ‘boots on the ground’. It obviously won’t happen overnight, but ultimate strength with come from weaponry. From what I have been reading, Ukraine has been the perfect testing ground for some upcoming technology that armies like Russia (who are all show in terms of numbers and equipment) have nothing conventional to retaliate with.
They’ll probably use the same argument for any understaffed area of British life.
“The number of police officers doesn’t matter, it’s the efficiency of their prevention, detection, and deterrence that matters.”
“It doesn’t really matter that we have x thousand fewer nurses, what’s important is blah, blah, blah…”
I’d have been interested in Ben Wallace’s oosition, although I expect the decline was already well under way under him
Shapps must have a book of evidence on people…how he’s in government…I just can’t see how he does it
The popular line of thought, if you want to review it in these terms, is that white men are being mistreated throughout society and therefore, in broad numbers, are saying ‘yes’ to fewer participation choices posed by the state more frequently than years before.
Right, it’s about training and equipment…
Our ships are docked and one hit another the other day.
And even if any of our stuff was battle ready, you then need munitions, which are critically low.
So let’s produce more!
Great, only, China now owns 91% of all metals mining, refining and fabrication, and have a few months back said they won’t supply the West with these needed metals to make more advanced munitions.
The West is royally F’d in the A.
Capability matters more than numbers. If we can have the same or greater capability with a bunch of AI operated drones, then there’s no point putting our people in harms’ way. As long as we have superior technology, it doesn’t matter if we have inferior numbers. The first military to field firearms against men with swords probably had inferior numbers and probably won.
Well he’s got a point.
Russia = huge army but rubbish
The UK doesn’t have a huge landmass to defend nor would we be invading a large landmass on our todd either. Tomorrow’s war will be very different to anything we’ve seen before.
He is kind of right in that out is better to be short of people, than short of hardware. People are always quicker and easier to do replace.
We saw the opposite with Germany about a decade or so ago I think.
It mostly is about numbers * training * morale * technology * battle experience
Numbers are a big part of that.
Apparently the Army is losing 3 people to every 1 that joins
Didnt fatty twat bojo start this shit about future wars being fought online or some shit……i guess someone forget to tell Russia, Ukraine, Palestine, Israel, Iran, Iraq, The Cartels that they should be fighting online and should reduce their army numbers post haste
There is truth to the fact that mass itself won’t win a war.
Quality over quantity is a real thing to a point, but you do need a minimum amount of mass for that to be the case.
Clearly it is, just look at Russia. They have terrible equipment but Ukraine cannot push them out due to lack of people compared to Russia.
‘’Yeah we’ve upgraded to Windows XP it’s fine, you’ll see it at the barracks on our Fushitsu screens.’
Here we fucking go again, cue the shit show comment section.
Its crazy to think… years of austerity and cutbacks… you’d think this government would have made this country better? Infact, made it worse and tripled tje national debt than when labour was in charge.
My question is…
Where has all this money gone?
‘Don’t look at the numbers’ – the epigraph that opens the Tory manifesto
“Shapes makes up excuse to justify low army personnel numbers and hopes for capita board position”
It does not help that recruitment got outsourced, and to Crapita of all companies.
Tell that to China. They may die of laughter. Maybe that’s the tactic.
Why do they put twats like him without even a days prior military service in this position?!
It’s not just about numbers ? * checks all the wars in history, sorry grant seems to be exactly about numbers – unless he’s basing that on his knowledge of game of thrones battles of course?
Will they just hurry up and fuck off. What a bullshitting chancer.
Numbers are where it starts though. You cannot run a Michelin star restaurant with one chef and you cannot have a world class military without enough personnel to use equipment, gather intelligence and so on.
As much as the quality of kit and soldiers is important, size does matter!
I’m getting Deja Vu. Didn’t May say the same thing about the police 🤔
Well, at least Europe isn’t threatened by a war… oh.
