A question on supporting documents for inviting parents to visit.

I am a non-EU citizen and living in Finland with my spouse on a residence permit and would like to invite my parents to visit for some time. I was going through the application process and referred to this website: [https://um.fi/visa-to-visit-finland#Visa%20types](https://um.fi/visa-to-visit-finland#Visa%20types) where all the requirements are mentioned.

To check the supporting documents required, I visited the website [https://finlandvisa.fi/checklist](https://finlandvisa.fi/checklist) which reads:

“Documents confirming the purpose of the journey – Proof of itinerary:

Travel plan covering all the destinations of the trip. – Flight reservations, including roundtrip and possible other Schengen states and third countries. Please note it is not recommended to purchase the tickets before receiving the visa decision. ”

My question is, if they’re not recommending purchasing tickets before the visa decision, what do flight reservations mean? Dummy tickets? Any suggestions?

  1. You have to purchase the tickets because you will need to upload them as supporting documents. You can purchase flexible tickets where you can get a full refund in case of visa rejection.

  2. Did this last year.
Dummy tickets valid atleast for 2 weeks is enough.
