I was in a local restaurant in Sofia and the menu was in Bulgarian and they didn’t had a Pirin Macedonian menu so I asked in English what the waitress can recommend. It should be sth with meat. The food looked great, but the portion was definitely too small considering how expensive it was. Or are these normal prices ?

If you ordered in a foreign language you got the foreigner menu which comes from 10-100 % more ! This is Bulgaria, you do not get to leave with your whole skin intact !
15 leva at most, not euros
They didn’t have a menu in Macedonian so you preferred one in English, rather than Bulgarian? Makes sense.
Pirin Macedonian? You mean the Southwestern region of Bulgaria, where Bulgarian is obviously the main language?
Worth 7 levs but that’s on you for speaking English m8…
You got ripped off my friend. As soon as those fuckers hear English, you’re done.
They scammed you brother …
It’s not uncommon here to have separate menus for foreigners. We went to a cafe-bar with my friend and when the server was approaching us she heard we were speaking in bulgarian, so when she gave us the menus, she told us that we will pay half the price of what we order. Both of us ordered a coffee and a lemonade, which per the menu were 5 and 10 lvs. However each of us paid 2.50 and 5 lvs for our orders.
The location really matters as well. In the center it’s quite normal to have higher prices, however it’s best to have a friend who knows places with good food at an affordable price. I do think you got scammed, but I might be wrong.
you got scammed
Obvious troll
No you did not get scammed . Tell us which restaurant and we can check prices . If it was on Vitosha something like щастливеца most of their meals are around 30 leva.
Yesterday at Bankovich ribeye steak was 60 or 80 . It really depends where you eat
It’s 99 percent they gave you the correct price nobody scams foreigners on top restaurants . On vitoshka 90% of the salads cost 15-20 leva
Main dishes in Sofia center are normally around 20-30 lv, so you were not really scammed. The portion size is a bit smaller than average but that depends on the dish. I think everything is okay.
Not uncommon for a home style prepared dish to cost 7.5 – 8 EUR in the capital of the country – and here I speak about Romania, which should be sort of the same level if not more expensive, however you can go to a pricey restaurant and pay double or even more on it… This being said it matters less what you eat, but where you eat!
Bro it’s worth 999€ or a gram of 999 gold (your choice obviously)
