On this day 1992, all member states of the European Community (EC) recognized the Republic of Croatia as a sovereign and independent state.

    The first internationally recognized country to recognize Croatia was **Iceland**, which made this decision on December 19, 1991.

    By the end of January 1992, 44 countries recognized the independence of Croatia.

    There sre still 7 states that dont recognize Croatia. These are: Bhutan, South Sudan, Liberia, Niger, Somalia, Central African Republic and Tonga.
