I have to admit that they do have a point. I think we should deny [Fennovoima](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fennovoima) of construction permit. The whole the thing is already 10 years behind schedule anyway.
Completely correct
We should’ve phased out natural gas decades ago.
German Greens and their ridiculous anti-nuclear power obsession are obviously at least partly to blame.
Massive investment in renewables has mostly just offset the nuclear they ordered cut, now more gas than ever is required and Germany plans to maintain this fossil fuel use indefinitely for at least 20% of electricity, far higher for heating and transport.
Green in name, not in nature.
Surprised pikachu
So i assume china has made long-term commitments to buy all their gas, otherwise this whole thing is ‘short-sighted’ on russias part.
I mean it’s true. If you purchased gas on a long-term contract whilst prices are low, that gives you a backup source of energy whilst you go through your green transition. You cannot announce that you are going through a green transition, start shutting down all your nuclear power plants and then decide to only buy gas on the spot market, that doesn’t make economic sense.
I hate to say it, but Dobby is right
POS aint wrong on that.
True.
Here in The Netherlands it is especially funny as our government was apparently planning on reactivating the local natural gas wells which had been shut down because people’s houses were developing cracks and the amount of earthquakes.
Turns out people *really* aren’t a fan of that, and the government is all “wait, you really expected us to have a different plan B?”
People have been saying all along we should build up a reserve of gas and/or hurry up migrating away from it like other countries have, but now it becomes apparent why they were dragging their feet on that.
Bunch of useless assholes.
Not short sighted EU more like short term profiteering by the energy companies that’s now come back to bite them. One thing I’m glad about of being in the UK is the government energy cap now means these money grabbing companies are now paying more for their energy than the price cap is so they’re selling at a loss and at the time of year where energy use is at its peak. Maybe that loss of millions of pounds might make them think in the future.
There is a global energy crisis. Energy prices in Asia are even more ridiculous.
This short sighted event has a major upside though: a direct reduction of Russian fossil fuel dependency.
EU went full on long term US LNG contracts. Putin on suicide watch.
By EU does he meant Germany. Other countries have lots of nuclear and hydro power.
Yep. It was shortsighted to make yourself dependent on Russian gas in the first place.
Aren’t they tired of all that Rus-splaining already?
They aren’t wrong.
Well I agree on this
And the worst part is he is entirely right, yet we still have would be chamberlains in Germany who are intent on being at Putin’s mercy and who would wait until the Russians had pushed up to the border before realising that perhaps he isn’t actually the kind of guy to work with.
We should be leaving gas in the past, but currently we are shutting down nuclear plants which are ACTUALLY clean energy and shifting the definitions to count gas as green.
