It seems that in Russia only babushkas (grandmas) have the guts to say what they think.

1. well, let’s ignore for a moment that ruZZia is not a democracy.

   A main problem of modern democracies is that parties are allowed to say anything before elections but then do anything else if elected. Therefore it comes to lies.

   Lie is normal during election campaigns.

   For instance: now in Germany all are unhappy cause of the heating law for building which forces every owner to spend a huge amount of money. If electors had known that before they would have elected other parties, but they did not know.

   There should be a constraint to implement what one party said during the elections.

   ​

   But this regards democracies and ruZZia is not one.

2. Babushkas are his main constituency. This brave woman is an outlier. It’s young Russians that oppose Putin.

3. Because the older generation lived through the same lies of the Soviet Union. They know. Just like how those who live in countries gripped by corruption know corruption when they see it. The peculiar thing is how the younger russians do not see it. This is why I think the kremlin does propaganda very well, and we in the West must be wary of their abilities particularly in this respect.

   As well as the babushkas, the russian ruling class themselves know that their country is a shithole. This is why they send their kids to the West. You see this happening throughout the parts of the world ruled by corrupt regimes. Those in power rob the “undeserving” populace to enrich themselves so they alone can live a life of abundance in that shithole country and keep the income stream for their kids living in the western democracies. Then, they put up a facade of prosperity with grandiose infrastructure projects that are too in-your-face for the ordinary folk to ignore, to send the message domestically, “See, we are a prosperous country because of me. Make sure you keep me in power.” Of course they almost never develop anything truly for the people. Every government project is a self-enrichment scheme with greatly inflated budgets and most of the allocated state funds end up in the private pockets of the politicians. The cycle continues and the country becomes a shittier shithole. The best indicator that this is happening is that the politicians never want to step down or away from the power. Why? Because that will destroy their income stream and lifestyles, and those of their kids living in the west. They hold elections but the people have no real choice. They will change the country’s Constitution to be the ruler of that shithole for life if that’s what it takes.

   For a long time the russians were able to put up the facade of prosperity because the world kept paying good money for their energy and military exports. We were so dependent on them that we kept offering our cheeks to be slapped by them. This war has changed that massively, hopefully forever. I say hopefully because that depends on Ukraine winning this war. If Ukraine loses, each and everyone of us shall offer our cheeks to the russians again and thank them for slapping us.

5. Though the older women tend to support Putin, they’re also a costly faction because of their pensions. So if Putin can kill them with winter and blame local governments — that’s a win for Putin.
