The first modern novel, originally published in two parts, in 1605 and 1615.
I saw a film recently where one of the characters gave another character a first edition of Don Quixote. I laughed thinking that was *highly* unlikely. The joke was on me, though. It turned out that both characters were hundreds of years old. Nice touch.
