Im sorry, but neither of them, ukrainians or russians are native to kuban. Both settled their pretty late, around 1792 and onwards as a result of the expansion of the russian empire, which worked together with the cossacks to conquer those areas.
Starodubshchyna is a different case, their is indeed weight to this claim.

The next step should be Ukraine laying a claim on Bilhorod or parts of the Kuban north of the Kuban River. Many of the locals are russified Ukrainians, they should be re-Ukrainized. Aggression has been paid for with land historically, and Ukraine does deserve compensation.
