Americans are feeling optimistic about the economy again

  1. I just spent over $200 on basic groceries. I purchased zero meat. My biggest “splurge” was a pair of sub sandwiches that were on sale. Actually nearly everything I purchased was “on sale.” The groceries I received are smaller sizes than ever. Much of the produce is withered. The shelves were absolutely stocked full of products customers are either unwilling or unable to buy anymore.

I don’t know who is pushing these articles or why but attempting to gaslight an entire nation into believing “everything is going great” while they are literally witnessing their individual financial situation alongside the situations of everyone they interact with deteriorate week by week is really insidious. My guess is these propaganda pieces are likely going to start having the opposite effect. They will likely just make normal people even more distrusting of what they are being told is the truth.

Sure, my investments have done great. I’d be an idiot to not understand that’s just on paper. We are in for a wild ride these next couple of years.

  2. Got laid off from my tech job at age 40 , have been working there for the past 5 years, they said that they are “restructuring” . Past 4 months I have been actively searching there are no jobs , only had 3 interviews so far.
Learned that same mid size company laid off 200 more people which is half of their tech workforce. In the first 2 weeks of 2024 over 7k developers got fired from over 30 different companies . I am not optimistic about the economy.

  3. The cope in this sub is unreal. People are so committed to their doomerism that anything else – including an article that points out the objective fact that people are feeling better about the economy – is just outright dismissed as propoganda without engaging with any of the actual content.

The recovery is real, the vibescession is over. RIP in peace pessimists.

  4. Because the stock market is high. They feel the Wealth Effect. When the stock market tanks they will feel depressed.

  5. *Rich Americans are feeling optimistic because every control everything and keep gaining more power.

Ordinary Americans don’t feel optimistic about anything

  6. lol. So optimistic they’re poised to elect a fascist. Income inequality is close to the Russian Federation. No, nobody is optimistic, and you will feel that soon enough.

  7. What key economic indicators are people complaining about?

The Consumer Confidence Survey shows, “Consumers’ Perceived Likelihood of a US Recession over the Next 12 Months abated in December to the lowest levels seen this year”.

The Survey also notes a percentage still believe a downturn is possible. I think we are all justifiably skeptical of economic stability predictions, based on what we observed during and after the 2008 financial crash, that left so many in a bad situation.

Just before the 2008 collapse, Forbes declared Lehman Brothers, the poster child for the subprime mortgage collapse, the No. 1 “most admired securities firms”. Oops. They were also given an ‘A’ credit rating by S&P’s rating agency just six days before collapse. So skepticism is warranted.

In our current highly polarized political environment, I also believe it is about political parties not wanting to give the other team a win.

If you believe the economy is bad, Why is the economy bad compared to the previous administration?
