  1. Both are entertaining in different ways. Maher is so niche that he would not have done well w the SNL crowd IMO. Norm was the best update host in the entirety of the show so it worked out.

  2. Norm’s writing, timing and of course, charm, were on another level altogether.

  3. The only time Weekend Update was any good was when Kevin Nealon did it. It was actually funny.

  4. >SNL Writer Says

Which SNL writer? You guessed it; Frank Stallone

  5. Christ, weekend update would be twice as long just for the sake of Bill being up his own ass because of his own genius…

  6. I feel like choosing someone funny was the correct decision.

  7. I get really confused when I see his show on the most streamed lists on Max. Who is his audience?

  8. Bill Maher should be crowned the Prime Minister of Hackistan.

  9. Ew.

This is the one man everyone should be looking to when they think of the words “Hollywood elitist”. Dude legitimately thinks he’s smarter and better than everybody else on the planet. And it’s so goddamn transparent when you watch his show. He legitimately thinks he’s the funniest person to ever exist and he’s just some unfunny, pretentious twat who got lucky.

A lot of things about Jerry Seinfeld’s personality and beliefs have disappointed me over the years, But his seeming respect for this man was the most disappointing.

  10. What the hell conspiracy is happening in media that Bill Maher is constantly getting this mainstream push?!

  11. Bill Maher desperately wants to appear as intelligent as Dennis Miller but comes up even with Larry the Cable Guy.

  12. Hooooow? Hoooow!?!

Maher is a terrible “comedian” and his “writing” is 💩

As if losing Norm wasn’t enough.

  13. “Crisis averted” doesn’t even make it close to how to best express how grateful I am of that outcome

  14. Thank fuck we didn’t get stuck with that unfunny smarmy self-righteous dickbag.

    Norm wasn’t on long enough.

  15. I feel like this is the first time I’ve ever seen reddit support a conservative christian over a liberal atheist. Actually being funny must be incredibly powerful.

  16. Yeah and to skip to the end of his time at SNL. Something not many know. They originally came to norm and were giving him a warning they wanted to “get rid of jim Downey”. Norm replied that “if you get rid of him you get rid of me”. That was that. He basically quit. I’m sure the OJ thing didn’t help, but I dont know if he ever would of lost his gig if it wasn’t for Downey. Mabey they fired Downey because of the OJ jokes?? Anyways, He NEVER told Downey himself. What a way to keep a secret. He was good at that.

Here’s the interview, I just watched it yesterday, and I’ve gotta share it. Probably old news though!!

  17. thank god i don’t live in the Bill Maher SNL anchor timeline

  18. How is this a story? Or news? Or interesting to anyone? I may be going crazy, but it feels like there have been so many posts and articles lately about “This almost happened,” and “I have an opinion about a film I worked on 25 years ago.”

This content is overwhelmingly, look-at-me garbage and we should be upset that they are peddling this nonsense to us constantly.

  19. Which is a dumb way to say Norm McDonald beat Bill Maher for Weekend Update.

  20. That would have sucked so much if he got it.

    Norm was a comic genius.

Rest in comedy you beautiful moth.

  21. They made an infinitely better decision with Macdonald.

  22. “Nearly beat out” is a funny way to say didn’t beat out
