  1. Tbh out of the directing nominees who would you take out, that is a stacked list already. My least fave was Poor Things so maybe Yorgos Lanthimos but even then Yorgos Lanthimos was on par in creating a unique world like Greta Gerwig

And at least Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie got nominations elsewhere in screenwriting and best film respectively

  2. It was a politically popular movie, it’s not clear that either person deserved the nomination.

  3. > Despite helming the No. 1 movie of the year at the box office, Gerwig, 40 was not recognized in the directing category. She was, however, nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay, along with her husband and co-writer, Noah Baumbach.

    > Barbie was also nominated for Best Picture, which means co-producer Robbie, 33, is also up for an Academy Award, despite not clinching a nomination in the Best Actress category.

  4. Not of popular opinion, but I didn’t think it was very good. Got more praise than it deserved probably because there. Just isn’t much out there anymore.

  5. The concept was good, no doubt.

But I do agree it doesn’t fit these categories

  6. I mean it was ok. It was a nice movie. Like cousin vinnie

  7. Margot Robbie is an amazing actress. Barbie did a good job showcasing it, but this isn’t that big a deal. She’ll get a nomination eventually.

  8. Margot I understand.

She was excellent, but, from the female side, it was a role that felt purposefully second to the message of the movie itself. Gosling’s, the male side, the one that some would argue needs to be shouted, was more prominent through his performance. Hence his performance, and absolutely deserved Oscar nomination.

I think also this is where America Ferrera’s nomination comes into play. Like Margot, second to the message of the movie itself. Until that monologue (already getting regularly mentioned as a negative to her nomination). That was ‘Barbie’s’ one-shot, and she delivered it impeccably.

Gerwig is just unfortunate the deck was so stacked this year. It happens, and for once, I feel the spread this year in all categories is as considered as it has been for a while, with ‘Barbie’ absolutely getting its due where and when it can in front and behind the camera.

Now do something unheard of and give Jonathan Glazer the Oscar he should have got for ‘Under The Skin’.

  9. Julianne Moore and Natalie Portman were snubbed too. Jodie Foster got one for Nyad?!! That makes no sense. That was the worst acting I’ve seen from her.

  10. **Other Major Oscar misses include:**

    – No Leonardo DiCaprio or Zac Efron in Best Actor
    – No TMNT: Mutant Mayhem in Best Animated Film
    – No Charles Melton or Willem Dafoe in Best Supporting Actor
    – No Rachel McAdams in Best Supporting Actress
    – Across The Spider-Verse not in Best Original Score
    – The Iron Claw, John Wick 4 & Priscilla got 0 nominations
    – No Strange Way of Life in Best Short Film
    – Only 2 nominations for Past Lives

  11. Rewatch the movie and most of its appeal fades away. Calling this a snub gives the film more credit than it deserves.

  12. It was a fun movie. Wildly popular and a huge hit. An industry favorite for sure. But in my opinion, just that.

  13. The most hyped up movie of the year that isn’t so good when you watch it a 2nd time through??? Who would’ve thunk.

  14. You mean actresses. Actresses vote for who’s nominated for best actress.

So in your opinion, the professional actresses have flawed judgement in the field of best actress bc they didn’t agree with you.

  15. Honestly they were both nominated for their better work on the film – Greta’s writing and Margot’s producing. So I’m happy for that. But it still stings they didn’t get the two big nods. It’s a competitive year that’s for sure.

  16. Why the fuck was it nominated for best adapted screenplay instead. There was literally no source material it’s an original script

  17. Okay, the “Barbenheimer” marketing and the memes were funny, but it feels like they let it get to their heads. No one actually thinks that Barbie could ever be considered in the same level of filmmaking as Oppenheimer or Flower Moon.

  18. It’s not shocking. What a stupid headline.

I liked Barbie and would have no issue with these two getting nominated, but it’s never shocking when a comedy gets snubbed at the Oscars.

  19. It made 1.5 billion and they probably both made 7 or 8 figures on it, they’ll be fine

  20. Barbie won every award it should in the form of money and hype and talkability, it will be a more lasting film culturally. It is not an Oscar movie. It should not be up for best picture or best screenplay.

It’s fun, it’s overstimulating, it’s pretty and culture-mining and quirky, the script is a mess and nobody should win an acting award for best acting of the year from this movie.

In my opinion it deserves technical awards but none of the main awards— give movies who didn’t have a trillion dollar marketing budget a chance to be recognized

  21. It’s a Barbie movie. Settle down people. You don’t base the awards off box office, or Robert Downey Jr. should have had all of them.

  22. I’m sorry , I watched Barbie , no way that’s a best actress nomination .

  23. Snubbed? It got nominated for Best Picture and Adapted Screenplay. Both which it didn’t deserve (I think). Also like two noms in the song category. Pretty damn good showing! The directors caregory was just TOO stacked. I mean Alexander Payne wasn’t even nominated and The Holdovers was excellently directed.

  24. Just looked up the noms list and what the fuck. What are we doing nominating America Ferrera for Barbie? That was Disney channel level acting from her.

  25. Where they snubbed, or was Barbie just an overhyped summer popcorn movie.

  26. No Zach Effron and Jeremie Allen white for iron claw kinda sucks. They were amazing.

  27. The movie was entertaining but it was kind of all over the place. I wouldn’t award the director.

  28. Is it really that shocking? It is the Oscars after all.

  29. Are we shocked, really? Is Barbie at all the type of movie or performance that the Oscars celebrate?

The Oscars likes exactly one type of film, and Barbie isn’t it.

  30. Whoever seen Barbie and thought “wow what an amazing acting performance by Robbie” or “Incredible directing job this is” is laughable. wtf is wrong with people? I enjoyed the movie as is and my wife and I was very entertained but that’s it.

  31. This is literally what Barbie was about. The patriarchy snubbed someone that questioned the patriarchy.

Pendulum has swung back across from Me Too, Hollywood did not like women speaking out.

  32. Best actress? It was a popular comedy, but not worthy of best actress.

  33. This doesn’t feel like a snub.

I think they were great but it wasn’t the best directing I saw this year at all. And that’s fine by the way, something anhoyable and well put together doesn’t always mean “best directing performance”.

Same with Margot. She killed it but I don’t think it’s even if the top 10 of good performances this last year.

Stop making outrage out of literally nothing

  34. Oscar’s are a joke, why anyone watches them is beyond me

  35. GOOD 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 THE FILM COULDN’T BE MORE OVERRATED.

    KUDOS TO THE ACADEMY 🤝

  36. Which part of the movie was she supposed to be nominated for her direction? The part that’s essentially a car commercial starring America Ferreira or the part where Will Ferrell plays Will Ferrell playing Not-Lord-Business-Will Ferrell?
