We could have built a hell of a lot of wind power for that money, and done it already.
It‘s hilarious to see that each new EPR block built is getting substantially more expensive. Must be French accounting 😂
Shocking.
>The plant in Somerset, which has been under construction since 2016, is now expected to be finished by 2031 and cost up to £35bn, France’s EDF said. However, the cost will be far higher once inflation is taken into account, because EDF is using 2015 prices.
Inflation between 2015 and 2023 was on average about 3,6%.
£35bn in 2015 -> £46bn in 2023
So basically the price is much higher. I mean it kinda depends on when which expenditures where made, but jesus…
Lets see if they really finish somewhere between 2029-2031 and how much the costs are in the end.
Hinkley C, foreign built, foreign owned & foreign fueled, this money could have been invested in UK windfarms and UK energy independence.
Check it, I get that these facilities are, for practical purposes, some of the most capital intensive endeavors that we can engage in as a species, but these numbers are just stupid now. Same thing happened in Georgia with their latest reactor, which ended up going over projections a ridiculous amount.

Gosh, that’s a surprise!
Who would ever have foreseen such a thing?
