  1. **The Telegraph reports:**

Norway must ramp up defence spending in the face of a potential war with Russia within three years, the country’s armed forces chief has warned.

General Eirik Kristofferson said in an interview with Dagbladet, a Norwegian newspaper, that time was running out to build up the nation’s defences in the face of an increasingly unpredictable Russia.

“The current window of opportunity will remain open for a year or two, perhaps three, which is when we will have to invest even more in our defence,” Gen Kristofferson said in the interview, published on Sunday.

“We do not know what will become of Russia in three years. We need to prepare a strong national defence to be able to meet an uncertain and unpredictable world,” he added.

The Norwegian general said Moscow was building up its weapons stockpiles much faster than Nato allies had anticipated, adding to the sense of urgency.

Norway, a Nato member, does not currently meet the alliance’s requirement of spending two per cent of GDP per year on defence, but is aiming to reach that goal by 2026.

It is the latest in a string of warnings from Western leaders that open conflict with Russia on the eastern flank is increasingly becoming the biggest security threat facing Europe.

Last week Boris Pistorius, the German defence minister, said Vladimir Putin may choose to attack a Nato country within five to eight years.

Earlier this month, General Micael Bydén, the head of the Swedish armed forces, said Swedes needed to “prepare themselves mentally” for the outbreak of open conflict with Russia.

Nato leaders are particularly concerned about Putin’s apparent goal of expanding the former Russian empire, which could lead to attempted land grabs in countries that border Russia and its key ally Belarus, such as Finland and the Baltic states.

Finland has already joined Nato in anticipation of that threat, while Sweden’s request to join the alliance was poised to be approved on Tuesday by the parliament of Turkey – which as a Nato state has a veto on new countries becoming members.

  2. They must have intel of something. We weren’t talking like this 1 or 2 years ago from what I remember

  3. Is the media not giving us the full picture? Almost every article I read, seems to indicate Russia is losing hundreds/thousands of troops, planes and airfield are being destroyed and they are barely able to piece together enough WW1 armor to use for artillery. Plus heavily reliant on NK for ammo. How can Russia be any sort of non nuclear threat?

  4. To those wondering: China. I have an inkling that Xi Jiping is about to make his move. And it won’t be together with the rest of the world.

  5. Just happened to be watching Occupied on Netflix, interesting premise >!USA leaves Nato which leaves EU weak in the face of Russia. Russia takes over Norwegian Oil and Gas instillations….!<

If Trump leaves NATO EU would need to up it’s budget a lot more than 2%.

  6. Its crazy that all the countries that border/nearly border RU are setting off alarms and red flags and the rest of the world is like “we’ll give Ukraine just enough to fight but not enough to win.”

  7. I have watched a lot of movies lately about Norway during WW2. I wouldn’t recommend Russia try it.

  8. They must be sure now ukraine is not going to win this in the next years

  9. I don’t understand the dichotomy of “Russia’s economy sucks all they have is their oil they can’t sustain this pace” to “Russia has the bandwidth to take on all of NATO”

  10. You’ve had two years. Come on. So much useless bureaucracy slowing everything down.

  11. Again, I’m a strong proponent of Europe gearing up against Russia, but my question is, currently, with what would Russia attack any part of Europe? Aren’t all of their forces engaged in Ukraine? Do they really have enough forces to open a second front anywhere else?

  12. We’re fucked.

For years and years America has been pushing NATO counties to invest at least 2% of their GDP into the army…

Barely any have done so, apart from Germany last year or even 2 years ago. We’ve always figured America comes to save the day…

But Trump said he wouldn’t be assisting us in case of a war, and I get that.

We kept delaying spending more and now we need to rush hard to get any of those cut expenses recovered.

    GG Europe. GG.

  13. That’s where the Berserkers and Vikings came from? What the hell happened to you guys?

  14. you mean Europe is running out of time.

When European states should be doing everything they could to support Ukraine and bolster eastern states they aren’t doing much especially the usually snubby France, with exception of Germany, Poland, and other neighboring Russia members.

  15. Europe (minus UK, Germany, and Poland) have been lallygagging for the last 10+ years as the Russian threat only grew. How many European countries have met their agreed NATO spending requirements? Easy times build weak men.

Now Europeans are begging the US to bail out Ukraine (not NATO btw), Moldova, and Finland. All while simultaneously being critical of US intervention. What a joke.

  16. Europe cannot rely on the US 100% anymore for defense support. If Trump wins, America could have at least four years of “neutrality” in the Ukraine war. Even if Trump loses, Republicans in congress will probably keep pleasing Putin and kill Ukraine aid. Europe needs to ramp up armaments production right now.

  17. Just put a sign up on the border:

“Warning: Norway is a NATO Ally. Invaders will be nuked. This is your one and only warning.”

  18. They’re preparing for a fascist takeover by the GOP. Amazing how effective Russian and Chinese propaganda is on social media.

  19. Sounds like Europe should get their shit together and defend their fellow Europeans.

  20. It’s fucking insane to me Reddit now allows the fucking corporations to post their own content. I wonder if there’s behind the scenes money making going on from directing Reddit clicks to your news article.

This type of shit wouldn’t have flown on this site five years ago.

  21. If these assholes actually believe the stuff they’re saying and they’re not just trying to get more funding / votes, why the hell don’t you join the war on the side of Ukraine? You’re going to be at war with Russia anyway.

  22. What happened to the GOP man, letting the Russians get a foothold into invading Europe?

Reagan is turning around in his grave.

  23. The #1 best way for NATO to defend against Russia is to make sure Ukraine gets everything it needs, even Putin isn’t deluded enough to get embroiled in a second conflict until this one is resolved.

Also if you wanted to be a heartless machiavellian bastard about it you would provide just enough support to Ukraine so the conflict continues to grind Russia down until it just flat out collapses.
