British public will be called up to fight if UK goes to war because ‘military is too small’, Army chief warns.

  1. No doubt we’ll call it the ‘Youth Opportunity Programme’.

  2. Good thing there’s all these healthy young men arriving every day eager for citizenship.

  3. And the British public will tell them to go fuck themselves.

  4. Ha. That guys helmet requires a reshow.

But yeah, the Army is quite small, ask any regular and they will tell you everyone is feeling the pinch of such a small force.

  5. Half of the things waddling down the High Street can hardly walk let alone fight. Tell them the enemy has a Greggs behind their lines and they might barrel right through.

  6. The draft is real. You’ll either serve or be off to prison, escorted aggressively by men with big rifles. I think people have forgotten how democracy is suspended during major wars and many workplaces are converted for war functions, Covid wasn’t much for restrictions.

  7. No thanks. Die for some evil people and their greed/fanaticism, etc nah.

  8. War with Russia will last for 2 hours before the local Morrisons is a radioactive wasteland – this isn’t happening. Conscription when two nuclear powers are fighting is irrelevant.

  9. I’m thinking of the scene from ‘Old School’ when Will Ferrell wants everyone to go streaking with him…..

  10. “I’m too cowardly to fight. It’s much better if we let China and Russia just do and take whatever they want. There’s no way that this could ever have any future negative consequences for me.”

  11. There are plenty of people applying, but since the tories privatised the recruitment process by outsourcing to Capita, it takes so long to get basic stuff done like the initial medicals etc that people drift off to other jobs before they can actually be recruited.

So WHAT THE FUCK is he talking about.

  12. I would rather piss razor blades than serve this country, lmao

  13. The responses here, so far, are sickening!
Have you no knowledge of the past. Did you learn nothing in history class? Do you not know of the fights to defend the very freedoms you so causally use to proclaim “fuck them”?

There is a war on the European continent against a fascist dictator who cares not for your rights. He wants to expand the Russian world to our doorstep and is willing to kill countless millions to accomplish this. Who is going to stop him? You with internet posts? Just how long can you turn a blind eye to aggression, until it is at your door and your allies have already fallen?

  14. This is the point where, if you have any sense, you’re preparing to LEAVE.

    I mean, seriously.

They’re either going to attack Russia at the Suwalki Pass or they’re going to attempt a decap strike on Putin. This is WW3.

    Fucking leave.

I was born in the UK, never harmed the UK, and I’m not fighting for this shithole, ever. I am making my preparations to leave.

Any illness or disability you’ve got, they will nullify and declare you fit for service. This is what happened in Ukraine.

I always mark my posts on subjects like this with “mark my words” but nobody ever does.

Your life belongs to you and not them. Do what you have to do. The rest of the world is not some kind of hellhole. It’s mostly more habitable than the UK. I grew up in a European country and in adulthood lived in 2 other countries. I’ve also travelled a lot. So, if you’re reading this, recognise the warning. Get your escape route and just go.

  15. For mobilisation to be effective you need a relatively united country. Unlike the 20th century when young British men would queue up for hours at the recruitment offices to go fight in France, only 27% of Brits would be willing to fight for their country today. Decades of social engineering by successive Governments has completely divided the British public amongst racial lines, religion, gender and class.

It’s just as bad in Europe too.

A poll conducted in 2015 which showed the percentage of residents in various European countries who were willing to fight and go to war for their country had the following results:

    74% – Finland
    73% – Turkey
    62% – Ukraine
    59% – Russia
    58% – Kosovo
    55% – Bosnia and Herzegovina
    55% – Sweden
    54% – Greece
    47% – Poland
    46% – Serbia
    41% – Latvia
    39% – Switzerland
    38% – Ireland
    38% – Macedonia
    38% – Romania
    37% – Denmark
    29% – France
    28% – Portugal
    27% – United Kingdom
    26% – Iceland
    25% – Bulgaria
    23% – Czech Republic
    21% – Austria
    21% – Spain
    20% – Italy
    19% – Belgium
    18% – Germany
    15% – The Netherlands

You’ll notice Ukraine and Russia are near the top whilst the bottom is mostly Western European countries. If WW3 actually does break out and that may be a real possibility given the flood of warnings we’re currently getting from all the leaders of Nato then i seriously doubt any Western European nation including and especially Britain will be able to mobilise enough men for it.

  16. Unless russia actually invades the UK, no thanks.

Well if they invade luton it’s fine.

  17. I kinda think most of this is to deflect from all the shit going on that’s important. Not a conspiracist but…

  18. No chance, there’s not enough prison space for everyone who will tell them to eat copious amounts of shit.

  19. If my home was invaded like Ukraine. Yeah, I’ll fucking fight.

  20. Yeah, we won’t be going to be cannon fodder. Send all the MPs relatives and friends first.

  21. Wasn’t too long ago people on here were chomping at the bit for us to go to war over the Falklands. Bet they all change their tune now.

  22. If Sunak, Boris etc and the king himself stand with me on the front line, I might consider it.

  23. I just can’t see people willingly going to war anymore. For good or bad whatever I’m not going deep into it but I just think we’ve changed. I can’t imagine the young people of today, including me, willingly just going off to war.

Unless it was literally boats of Russians arriving in Devon shooting anyone insight and closing in on us I just can’t see anyone happily going off to fight for the government.

  24. I am Jack’s total lack of surprise.

I wanted to serve. I put in applications. Went through tests. Waited, and waited, and waited.

Capita left me waiting for two years, then refused to look at evidence in my appeal.

What a waste of time. I trained almost every day for two years only to be declared Medically Unfit.

I ran a 6 minute mile, could swim for hours. I spent weeks finding evidence to appeal my case, tracking down doctors from more than 10 years ago.

Permanently Medically Unfit, no right to appeal.

  25. I love how the people in the comments think they would have a choice if conscripted.

  26. Funniest headline I’ve seen in a while good luck with that 🤣

  27. I guess a decade of treating the very demographic you need signing up like second class shit means they are not willing to risk their life for shit pay and put down. Who would have thought…

  28. We’ve had a military alliance asking for us to spend billions on defence since the 80s based on the incredible threat posed by what turns out to be the second best army in Ukraine. The way hawkish commentators are trying to spin this to be a justification for NATO/conscription/military schools/corporal punishment is madness. Ukraine was the first and lowest hurdle for Russia and they have spent 2 years expending around 1/3 of their tanks to take a lot less than 1/3 of Ukraine. Pretending this validates the threat the Russian military poses is nuts.

It’s also an attempt to deflect attention from the fact our military and Government have shit the bed when it comes to preparing for this sort of conflict. There was seemingly no awareness of the importance of having production lines in place for munitions, an emphasis on high tech concepts when simpler, mass produced tools were needed and a general inability to reckon with balancing providing ranged threats with the fea4 that might cause Russia to nuke everyone. None of these are easy problems but the fact is that our 45 billion spend on defence each year has bought us 0 prep for these problems.

  29. Unlimited cans of Monster and elf bars and they will all be lapping up the Army.

  30. Id rather go to prison than get stuck in that climate out in the open waiting to be killed by the cold or a piece of super sonic metal…

I can catch up on some reading and gain a few skills while I am in there.

  31. Thank goodness I’m abroad where they can’t force me to do anything.

  32. I mean, I don’t think I’ll be much use since I’m severely Disabled and commonly have total meltdowns over incredibly dangerous things like *checks notes* …*being tired.*

But, uh, sure. Toss me a rifle. Let’s pop some Ivan between panic attacks.

  33. There is no way the general British Public will be forced into fighting in any overseas conflicts. The government will be overthrown before that ever happens. In the event though that Britain itself actually faces an existential threat it’s also pretty unlikely that normal British citizens with be taking up arms. The UK is a nuclear super power. An atomic holocaust will be well underway before conscription becomes a thing again.

  34. A massive global conflict is coming, and it won’t be as simple as telling your government to fuck off. The whole world will be caught up in it whether you like it or not.

  35. There won’t ever be a war or conscription if we and other countries give Ukraine what it needs when it needs it.

  36. Bollox!! The current Uk government are squaring up for a war because it’s an election year and their policies are crap. Don’t let them distract from their past record.

  37. To funny, what planet do these idiots live on, fight for Grant Shapps, Rishi & Cameron, so they & their friends can buy bigger houses & pay less tax, those days are over.

  38. Am I fuck going to fight for rich lobbyists who don’t care about anybody but shareholders.

  39. They haven’t depopulated enough so they use the tactics of war to achieve this.

How many British people who actually pass the army fitness tests as the amount of young kids that vape or smoke weed probably can’t run as much as kids from 10/15 years ago. Not every kid smokes weed back then but I’ll bet a very large percentage of kids, vape today from making such sweet flavours of vapes, to appeal to kids of all ages.

I always get the person who says vaping isn’t bad for you but the did the same thing with cigs, in World War Two. Got a generation of men smoking from giving them out free to people who fought in the war and they also made it more appealing to men and women from showing Hollywood stars of the day smoking on screen.

  40. A cynical opinion.

What exactly would young British men be fighting for I wonder? Asking them to die for a foreign country will be a big ask. Asking them to fight for ideology, fight and protect democracy and capitalism? Fat fucking chance when many young people perceive capitalism working against them these days. So what then? Appeal to ol’ reliable; patriotism and nationalism? Splendid. Except who in their right minds would fight for the UK these days? What would they be fighting for?

Cronyism and corruption, a country whose prime purpose these days seems to be the enrichment of the global rich; Arab oil shielks who coincidentally fund the spread of conservative Islam, Russian oligarchs who paradoxically we’d be fighting against and of course our good old home grown western 1% who out source all the jobs and enrich themselves endlessly at the expense of the rest of us.

The elephant in the room of course and forgive me for inevitably being offensive but does this army chief or politicians in general think there would be enthusiasm for conscription amongst the countries ethnic minority populations? The cynic in me thinks the people protesting LGBT subjects being taught at schools and the people passionately pushing for ‘decolonising’ the curriculum aren’t going to be thrilled receiving their call up letters from the postman.

I’d also wager there’s more likely going to be mass panic amongst the fighting age people of this country rather than civil disobedience purely judging from the reaction from Sweden a few weeks back.
