We Are Normalizing Trump. Again.

  1. “We”? You got a mouse in your pocket, Edsall? I would have put him in jail a loooong time ago.

  2. I refuse to watch any coverage of him whatsoever and limit my news to select sources, online only. The media is absolutely whoring themselves to this idiot. They’ve been doing this since 2015. They are doing it again.

  3. It’s not only the sycophantic and irresponsible media, but even institutions that have treated him with kid gloves, and people here that try to justify it. “You come at the king you best not miss! He’s President, it’s different. These things take time.”

The penalty for inciting a riot that leads to property destruction and death in DC is 10 years. Any one of us would have been arrested that day and would be in prison already. People who have taken secret documents like he has were hit with consequences immediately. Claiming that justice has to work differently or slower for trump is doing his work for him, you’re just paraphrasing and parroting his own sentiment. Trump’s obscenities have become the norm even for people who hate his guts.

Rather than be treated as an obscene abberation, the world continues to treat him as a legitimate politician and contender for President, they give him air time, they report every thing he says and does, this subreddit will upvote every stupid shit about him that it can, because we are all addicted to this dumpster fire of a human and are morbidly curious about what else he can get away with.

There is also a sense of arrogance permeating this subreddit, where most people for the last twelve months have been so sure that Trump is never getting anywhere near the White House again. The same arrogance of 2016, where people were gleefully begging Trump to win the primary to face off against Clinton, instead of what they should have been doing which was feeling disgust and outrage at this clown shitting all over the political process with his antics, creating precedents that can never be undone going forward.

  4. What do you mean, “again”?

I haven’t stopped hearing about the orange fuck since he left office, almost daily. It’s rare a day went by where he wasn’t on Reddit’s news or Home Screen for me. The news media empires love him because he brings views.

  5. So stop making articles **that literally accomplish this.**

I am a liberal voter in Vermont who voted Biden, will do so again and I’ve never once “normalized” Trump.

Media does this. It’s appalling that **any** media outlet would have the fucking gall to suggest this is a “we” thing.

It’s a thing for media outlets who want those precious clicks and ad revenue. They should at least be honest and say:

*”WE,* ***the media***, are normalizing Trump. Help put a stop to us doing that because we can’t help ourselves and we’re useless”.

  6. My opinion that Trump is a terrible businessman, a fascist, and rapes women, hasn’t changed in 30 years.

  7. The New York lapdog was among the first to give him a pass and normalize his behavior

  8. Yup. The media loves it. They never made so much money. The media never had this much influence and the American public has never been this stupid. It’s another perfect storm a-brewing.

  9. Who are “we”? Y’all were normalizing him the whole time fucking time. Do you think we wouldn’t remember?

I know there are some journalists in here reading the comments. Do you think we’re fucking idiots?

We know you wanted the traffic and clicks, but this ain’t on us.

  10. Transalation: we are addicted to alcohol and meth. We have to stop…. Pass me the scotch and the pipe….

  11. People here are blaming the media. I blame the legal system. It’s pretty frikkin obvious if you’ve got millions you can avoid penalty. And if you have Billions and absolutely no problem with bald face lying – it’s like it never happened.

  12. No. We aren’t. Find you’re brain then write another article.

  13. If the “we” is the media, then yes. You are. Again.

  14. Being the Republican frontrunner does that. Not to mention the media covers him so much.

  15. I’m really trying not to doom scroll or dwell on the possibility of another trump administration. Emphasis on “trying.”

I truly believe the Trump/MAGA brand has become a modern day cult. Almost like a larger/modern version of Branch Davidians but mainstream. It’s objectively unacceptable to believe ANY person, in any position, can do no wrong or that their wrong is justified because what about-ism. I just don’t get it.

How does one claim to be a true patriot while disregarding our basic principles of democracy?

  16. It’s good that New York Times can admit to what they’re doing.

  17. Guess what the NYTimes is going to do immediately before and after this column?

    That’s right: Normalize Trump. Again.

  18. And NYTimes has been on the front lines of that.

They cannot resist the juicy juicy headlines and sales of a country being captured by an authoritarian demagogue in real time.

  19. It is really amazing how Trump can completely normalize being a criminal and traitor. The fact that he’s just running like it’s normal is insane

  20. I like when media blame the readers , let’s not forget how in 2016 prior to him winning. You had tons of these silly hit peace’s that just were made up . But you ran with it for clicks, then when he was in office you had russigate that lasted two years just for Rachel Maddow to reveal nothing . Now you’re just giving him free press daily by talking about him all the time .

  21. The Media Never Stopped. He is their once in a Century Golden Goose. Getting him back into the White House means more over the top profits than they made during the first Trump train wreck. The chance to be the people to report on the dissolution of the Constitutional Republic has them giddy.

  22. Yes, New York Times, you are. Now what are you going to do to fix it?

  23. It’s really sad that an almost sentient shit bag is the nominee the GOP wants.
Memories are short if people forgot what he was like as president. I cringed every day waiting for the next unhinged tweet. I recall continuous lies, constant changes of staff, two impeachments, delusional medical advice during a pandemic he tried to ignore. The attempted coup was probably the most evil political event of my lifetime.
He proved he was incapable of the job and never learned to get better. Why exactly do we want to reinstall Shitler?
