Great. Omicron was pushing estimates to Q1 2022 but it seems like it had already recovered by Nov. Cancellations will have hit the service industry for Dec but there’s been no supply issues in Dec or Jan as far as I am aware, so that’s good news so far.
Soo…Brexit bad?
Excellent, but how the fuck is this breaking news?
Alright it’s a bit weird to post it here but this has been weighing on my mind for a few months now. Usually when this topic comes up some UK flaired redditors will ask where all the Brexit opponents are now and what our opinion is on this. And I get it to a certain extent, there are some very strong opinions on Brexit from all sides and a lot of times the discussions were not friendly or productive and a lot of hurt and offence might be built up inside a lot of us around the topic.

The EU has many flaws most of which can be broken down to an inability to coordinate a unified stance on most issues since the member states themselves are unwilling to give this power to the EU. This is a gridlock where member states complain about the EU not doing something on a issue while at the same time being unwilling to give this power to the EU. Alright then. At the same time there are many problems with my country Austria as well, as a federation we even share a lot of them. Does the EU have more problems than Austria? I don’t think so. Would it better off outside of the EU? I don’t think so.
So I was and am thoroughly against Brexit and would much prefer the UK in the EU as I think it makes both stronger together in the current political climate of the world wedged in between other superpowers. I also believe that the average worker who voted for Brexit as a vote against the effects that globalization had on them and to show it to “the elites in London” will not benefit from the exit.
It is, or maybe was, my believe that while the GDP of GB might even improve after Brexit it would only do so through the huge financial sector that would now benefit from less regulations. It seems to me that this might come true although with Covid and Brexit happening at the same time it’s really hard to know which effect can be attributed to which cause.
Now. If that actually happens to be wrong and Brexit will genuinely lead to higher median wages and better working conditions for the average worker then I am HAPPY for you. Truly. If this ends up working and the average life will be improved through this I will happily proclaim my wrongness and say so.
I wasn’t against Brexit because I didn’t want your lives to improve, I was against it because I didn’t think that it WOULD improve the average workers life.
I still hope that we will see GB join again in my lifetime but that doesn’t mean I don’t want you to succeed, quite the opposite.
Godspeed Britain
Is it also fair to say that the doomsday scenarios of Brexit did not materialize in the end?
Good data
I truly believe that the UK is more European than Europe and where East meets West.
