Ukraine has been targeting aircraft in what is basically contested airspace since the start of this war.
If Russia didn’t tell anyone that one of the planes that has been flying equipment to the war zone today instead had a bunch of POWs, then how would Ukraine know not to shoot it down when they’ve already been targeting Russian transports in the area?
Basically, if it did have Ukrainian POWs on board, Russia did it on purpose to accuse Ukraine of killing them. The blood is still on Russia’s hands, especially as there’d be no POWs if Russia hadn’t started this fucking war in the first place.
Otherwise there were no POWs on board and Russia is just making it all up anyway.
What Ukraine is saying with this statement ensures that even if what Russia says is true, it is a war crime by Russia, because it violates Article 46 of the Geneva Conventions regarding treatment of the transport of POWs.

Why would Russia waste a plane and their personel for this if what they say is true? I don’t understand what they would gain by getting their plane shot down.
That plane departed from Iran, there weren’t any POWs on it.

Not a chance Russia was flying POW’s so that one of their planes would get shot down for PR.
They’re embarrassed this happened over Russian soil so they’re trying to deflect blame.
Sure, that’s why they lied, went suspiciously silent, lied again, to finally admit they did it and lied again. It’s the polish farmers incident all over again. Admitting that a trigger happy made a mistake would be too much, what a bunch of clowns.
I am actually willing to wait until we have some clarity of the situation. Putin’s Russia has (and pretty much always had) the credibility of a chocolate-smeared toddler.

When in doubt, doubt that Russia is telling the truth.
So what the Russians are saying is, “Don’t shoot down our planes we may have your own people on them and may not have informed you as such. Next time we fly something over be aware you may be shooting at your own people because we like to fly them around because we may be dropping them off and we didn’t tell you.” Gosh, it all seems so “logical” now.
Everybody here is in denial. Ukraine got baited and they killed their own men. At the end of the day a Ukrainian pulled the trigger on those POWs. Look at every war. POWs have been flown places for a long time
