  1. The public in any country has an appallingly bad understanding of climate language, and not just the terms mentioned in this article. I’m an academic who does a lot of net zero related work and you’d be shocked how often the issue of public understanding and acceptance comes up in discussions. Worse still, none of us have a good answer on how to deal with it, while the problem gets worse every day (admittedly misinformation for most topics is growing at a concerning rate, not just climate change).

Sometimes people simply have no real understanding about what the words you’re using mean, but others times they’ll get extremely aggressive about it. Literally just yesterday on this subreddit I was harassed by a user for trying to explain that CCS isn’t just some O&G funded scam, to the point that the Reddit mods had to step in and concluded the person was breaking content policy.

If anyone has any good ideas about how to fix this issue please try to spread the word about it, it’s not only researchers and those in the net zero industry who can help in this fight against climate change, every little bit helps!
